Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

New windows update makes the game stutter?
Anyone else experience this?
Unfortunately microsoft forced this ♥♥♥♥ on me, but now it micro-freezes in the menus when I try to click something.
Any fixes?

How'd you guess or find out that this would fix it ? Where did you get the files from ? I guess with "game folder" you mean the \bin sub-folder instead of the main folder ?

dbVoodoo2 is a game emulator for old game or something I don't know but works
1. Dowload it from here: https://github.com/dege-diosg/dgVoodoo2/releases
2. Copy these 5 files into the bin folder:
dgVoodoo.conf, dgVoodooCpl.exe
D3D9.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll (from MS\x86 folder)
3. Run the dgVoodooCpl.exe to remove the watermark or make some adjustments.
Old YT tutorial for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVbZ0NZzadE
4. Set the SupremeCommander.exe compatibilty to WinXP SP2
5. Run the game as administrator

I just deleted the gas powered games folder in appdata/local and it works again, yea I had to make a new profile, set mods again and set display settings, but hey I can play the game again.

Nvm that only fixed for the first match, on restart the game has the same issue again, also when it needs to load voice/videos of the campaign.

Probably, it was fine on windows 11 before, but I feel like one of the more recent updates made it deal with this game poorly.
And I was wondering what the hell happened ! I have the same issue , even uninstall and reinstall and no success.

Yea I tried some things like disabling fast boot, changing the sound quality / bitrate (even though I didnt have that particular issue), compatability modes, etc.
Sometimes it works fine, sometimes it doesn't and I don't know what the trigger is.
Whatever the trigger is, it's pretty new cause as I mentioned and now you as well, it was fine before on the same OS and hardware.
It's clearly a windows update that did the damage . I tried reinstalling , DirectX drivers update, Nvidia update and change some settings . Nothing works . The game freeze for several seconds each time dialogue occurs or looped video/cutscene happens . Even clicking on menus can freeze for several second . And changing the graphic settings and Resolution is an issue .

Yeap, EXACTLY the same thing here, it's very unfortunate.
I'm on windows 11 willingly, but with the way how microsoft is pushing people to move from windows 10 to 11 it's just a matter of time till this happens to more people.

Same issue. I tried setting compatibility back to windows 7 which did improve it but still causes the delay. frustrating issue.

Yeap, did you do the bug windows update that released yesterday?
it apparently fixed 55 bugs in windows 11, but I haven't bothered to retry since then.

Was going to play these games this weekend because I really do enjoy playing them... Just to come across this stupid issue. What did the stupid developers at Microsoft due to Windows to cause it to make this great game fail to work properly? *sigh* I just wanted to play my old time favorite. I really hate developers. Always trying to "Fix" things that aren't broken, and in the attempt breaking it.

I know right, it sucks :(
Try and change affinity to 4 cpu cores.

Either start task manager and change affinity for the game there to use 4 cores or what works for you (must do it every start of the game).

Or change the shortcut with [C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" /affinity F] (the F is code for 4 cores)

Will look like [C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c start "" /affinity F "D:\Games\FAF Client\faf-client.exe"] if you use FAF.

Tried this today as I wanted to do a bit of skirmish, but it doesn't help.
Tried disabling only thread 0 (this helps in many other games)
Tried letting the game run only on threads 1, 2, 3 and 4 but also didn't work.

Thee freezing in the menus is also really annoying when trying to setup a skirmish game, to the point where I don't even want to play anymore.
