Once Forged Alliance Forever is installed go to
C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin
And using the Forged Alliance exe found within which launches Forged Alliance as normal (but with Forged Alliance Forever balance adjustments enabled).
Note that it doesn't matter where you install FAF to, the above file address remains the same (as example my FAF is installed in my G drive).
I'd still prefer to get the game to run with its native steam exe, but this is at least the next best - I can't work out why the steam exe refuses to run the game whilst FAF does.
* I've heard some have problems with widescreen displays and minimum resolutions, but currently my screan can only do 1024*750 (or the screen res that is close to that - I forget the exact numbers).
