Forged Alliance refuses to run
So I've discovered (sadly after purchase) that this game has issues with wanting to run and I've encountered them.

I'm running Windows 8.1 and currently I've tried the following::

1) Found the exe file and used a combination of "run as administrator" and compatability settings. All this ensured was that when I ran the exe windows pops up its User Account Confirmation page; but nothing more

2) went to \AppData\Local\Gas Powered Games and there was no folder for Forged Alliance so the game itself is not actually starting up.

3) Navigagated to the directX folder in the FA install location and ran the DX installer which ran with no problems. This, however, still has not resovled the issue.

4) Downloaded and ran Forged Alliance Forever - through this I was able to get the game to start a host session and set the opponents to AI bots. This also generated the expected files in the appdata location.
Unfortunatly the regular exe still refuses to work even after this - I also tried the trick of deleting the prefs file in that location, but still no luck with getting it to run,.

Has anyone else any suggestions for how to get the game itself to start? It will run and with no display issues, but I want to be able to start up the game itself rather than having to run it through the FAF interface and setup.

I have managed to get it to run, but only with Forged Alliance Forever installed.

Once Forged Alliance Forever is installed go to

C:\ProgramData\FAForever\bin

And using the Forged Alliance exe found within which launches Forged Alliance as normal (but with Forged Alliance Forever balance adjustments enabled).

Note that it doesn't matter where you install FAF to, the above file address remains the same (as example my FAF is installed in my G drive).

I'd still prefer to get the game to run with its native steam exe, but this is at least the next best - I can't work out why the steam exe refuses to run the game whilst FAF does.

Angel check my last post - there is at least (for me) some work-around. Not ideal but I can at least get the game to run as normal (or nearly normal). Can't work out why the steam version of the exe refuses to even start up.*

* I've heard some have problems with widescreen displays and minimum resolutions, but currently my screan can only do 1024*750 (or the screen res that is close to that - I forget the exact numbers).

I had the issue whne starting the game and it wouldn't display. To fix it: First, I set my screen rez to 1024 x768 and the game finally started as expected. In the game options, I set the screen rez to my preferred setting 1920X1080, then set my screen rez to 1920X1080 and it worked fine after that.
