It used to be a great thing. As it is now, developers are completely incompetent: the real developers left long ago and what's left only add more bugs with every patch they release, not knowing the first thing about programming, and the moderation and community is, for the most part, just a bunch of mindless fascists.

It's still one of the best RTS games ever made. Just don't fall for FAF. The people involved are toxic, rightist simpletons. Moderation is openly leading the persecution of people who are different in some way. It's just one big circle jerk of rednecks you wouldn't want to get involved with, if you're remotely right in the head.

I'm not one of those LGBTQ+ radicals, but I did witness how sexual orientation was brought into the "discussion" on discord for no other reason than a profile pic and a person got ganged up on by these pitiful creatures, attacked for what they are and then banned for trying to defend themselves.

Stay away from this filth. They are not worth the air they are breathing.

Unfortunately, the majority of FAF infrastructure has been under near-constant DDOS attacks since the end of September/beginning of October. A lot of measures have been taken to mitigate those attacks, but they're still happening & not all are able to be dealt with. The hardest hit systems now are the Coturn servers, which are used to assist with making connections between players when a stable P2P connection can't be established. At this time, there's only 1 Cotrun (labeled Global) that is having better success than the others because it's a 3rd party service with some additional protections.

With all that said, here are the current best suggestions for helping with connection issues:

In the FAF client, go to the top left menu > Settings:
1. General > Write ICE Log File > check,
2. Forged Alliance Forever > Use FAF Debugger when starting Forged Alliance > check > click "Get the latest version of the debugger",
3. Allow the ICE adapter to use IPv6 > unchecked,
4. Preferred Coturns for ICE > select only Global,

Next, quit the client (check Task Manager). Once it's completely closed, open the client again & play.

The next time you join a game & have connection issues, create a New Post in the #tech-support-forum channel on the FAF Discord, then go to client > top left menu > Show logs folder > logs > sort by Date Modified, then drag/drop these files into your Discord post so those that can help with connection issues (not me) have that data to review:
1. client.log file (the Text Document file without the date),
2. ice-adapter.log & advanced-ice-adapter.log (both in a separate folder)

Everything I posted is factually right. Some fanboys jumping in trying to undermine someone's credibility without actually having a point - that can actually be considered trolling and adds to internet toxicity. I was determined not to give a ♥♥♥♥ about the clowns jumping in for their redneck community and incompetent devs here anymore, but I feel like I have some sort of educational responsibility now. For the slow people: when a person gets ganged up on on discord for having a profile picture that indicates a different sexual orientation, as is their right to have, it's not said person that is getting political - it's the redneck trash mob. Before you try and dictate to others what they can and can't say or express, maybe learn to read? Maybe someone will even take you seriously some day. And to those others I can only say, I couldn't possibly care less what a bunch of simple stereotypes think of me, if I tried really hard. You just go ahead and game. It's what your brains, or whatever substitutes for them, are best at.

Don't listen to the clowns. The player ratings in faf are such a joke, it's actually hard to believe, if you don't see it for yourself. The whole thing is a farce. If you prefer team games, like most people, you can play a perfect match every time, do your part well, and still lose every game, getting downrated to mega-noob-tier eventually. Playing 6vs6 all the time, your rating will be >80% random, unless you keep stacking the teams in your favor, which is what most people do. If you want to avoid having to play with the mega-noobs, you have to stack your lobbies. In order to get "better", you have to learn what players are actually good (random ratings have little to do with that) and how to subtly stack the game without most people realizing, like putting all the experienced players with high game counts on your team - the balance logic doesn't care and will still display a whooping 92% balanced game, lol. FAF is the gaming equivalent of fecal matter. They are doing everything wrong and are proud of it. They cling to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ win-or-lose binary rating system, disregarding all personal performance in the team, to encourage more stacking.

The players, for the most part, are of such low character, they start wildly blaming and flaming others for screwing up the game, often for no good reason at all, just to distract from their own incompetence. The delusional, self-deceptive raging of a lot of players in this "community" actually reaches clinical levels of narcissism. A lot of those people need professional treatment, really, but somehow they made faf their very own redneck mental asylum instead.

Wonder why you get negative feedback when you write posts like this ? Being a strongly opinionated, entirely negative person that insults everyone in the room ? If it bothers you so much that others don't share your views or preferences or don't even experience any of your mentioned issues then perhaps provide relevant details to attempt to resolve the issue, create your own mod, use someone else's mod, play the normal game, or move on and play something else.

Your entire approach to the situation has been nothing but insults and complaints while FAF is a community project that anyone willing could help improve, which you show no interest in. Instead you try to gather people around it with such a broad topic title as "Stay away from FAF" to berate and slander the project, the people programming it and the people that use it, only to complain about toxicity and incompetence in every other post.

If you want others to program for you then hire and pay them, but don't expect them to stay if you berate them like that as well. Your strong opinions should easily guide you how to get something superior to FAF, if it's such crap as you state.

Incidentally, berating and slandering is the most natural thing that comes to most faf players. Not just in the game chat, the client chat or on discord, even in lobby titles people insult other players directly, if they can't think of some minority to slander instead. Just browse the replays and see how many games had "gay" (or "fa..."), [offensive word for black people] or [offensive word for mentally impaired people] alone in their *TITLES*. There's every imaginable slur to be found there against race, sexuality, sexual identity, disability... You name it, faf has it and nurtures it. Imagine what treasures you can find searching through all the recorded game chat logs! That's the level this "community" is on and nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥, "moderation" least of all.

All the technical issues, connection issues and disconnects that have gotten worse, the unfair rating system that encourages stacking, the bugs and crashes, the extreme toxicity and fascist redneck-mentality etc are facts that everyone knows who is actually playing faf, as I used to for years. After you installed the client, you have access to all the game replays, their lobby titles and chat logs. You will find a lot of sources there.

Also I am on the FAF Discord, I do have a furry profile pic there and literally every DM I've ever got was positive about it. I have no clue what you're on about, probably sarcasm you didn't get as the community is literally pretty chill and as long as you're not a clown they have no reason to be toxic towards you. Ingame it's smth different obvsly, but for the discord that's true.

Yes, very nice people on that discord, lmao. Try to report an issue or criticise the rating system. Only arrogant ♥♥♥♥♥ there, really.
