FAF or Vanilla
Do you guys like to play the FAF version or vanilla. I like vanilla because it is simpler and I know the strengths of everything without having to study up on the unit specs.

FAF is better. Not sure how you come to the conclusion vanilla is simpler, easier, yes.
FAF also does not really change unit specs, it just tweaks it a bit in an effort to rebalance them so all have some practical use.

Unless you play PvP I dun see any issue with the somewhat 'work in progress' aspect of FAF, yet if you play PvP, FAF is the route to take.

Since I mostly play against AI (Sorian) I prefer the Steam version.
Easier that way.

If play against the AI is your preferred style, then you might consider The LOUD Project, on ModDb. This is a tremendously superior AI for Forged Alliance, with dramatically improved late game performance. It features an entirely flexible AI that can be set to any value that suits your play style, from doormat easy, to impossibly hard.

Yes, loudman2, I have heard good things about it and even messed around in it a while ago.
But from what I remember it wasn't modular, meaning you got an overhaul of SupCom. Maybe it's possible to enable only the AI improvements from Loud?

FAF is better, better performance and the changes all make sense
I'm curious, is it easy to install either FAF or Loud on this Steam version? Easier or harder than non-Steam version?

Both Loud & FAF require that you have the Steam version of SCFA installed, but they both use their own file directory for the game files, thus leaving your Steam SCFA install intact.

For LOUD, you download the LOUD Updater & place it inside your root Steam SCFA folder (...\steamapps\common\Supreme Commander Forged Alliance). Once it's there, open it & run the update process. When that's completed, you should see a LOUD folder inside your root Steam SCFA folder & that LOUD folder is where it stores its game files. LOUD does use some of the Steam SCFA files to cut down on download size, but those are never altered & the rest of the LOUD files are kept separate so you can easily remove LOUD if you desire. To run LOUD, either use the Run Game button in the updater or have it create desktop shortcuts for you from the Tools menu.

For FAF, you download the client installer & it will install the client in its own directory (...\Downlord's FAF Client). Once installed, you open the client & when you setup or join your first game, it will download all the necessary game files to a different directory (C:\ProgramData\FAForever). Again, FAF needs Steam SCFA installed, but it doesn't alter any of its files & can be easily deleted if desired.
Thanks so much, @MostLostNoob ! I'm gonna give LOUD a shot, seems like the one for me :) (back in the day we always played against Sorian, but we like to play a bit turtle style, and Sorian wasn't so good late-game. I hope LOUD feels better for us)

Yep, I just play vanilla. Simply as it does what I want it too.

Playing vanilla is like playing half-life instead of cs 1.6, or like playing w3c instead of dota.

Vanilla, would play FAF if the didn't allow cheating mods (target prioritities) or at least an option to turn it off in games.

LOUD was not for me but i liked the AI, i got told they removed the "standalone ai" a long time ago.

Vanilla is better.

Malaware is in the FAF and LOUD mods and anyone will see the special permissions your computer needs to give it which puts your pc at risk.

Any person who tries to say you don't have to worry and just download what ever mod you want is probably the type of person who is trying to sneak the malaware on your computer.

As you can see below.

The FAF game is nothing like the original Supreme Commander anyway.

They completely ruin the game by changing the balance and strength of units etc.

The original version is perfect balance wise.

What really would be great is if Supreme Commander: Forged ALliance had a re-release with updated everything for this day and age.

Your claim is entirely unsubstantiated. As the author of LOUD, and someone who has been associated with FAF for several years - there is no malware in either product.
