Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance

Total Mayhem Weapons Problem
A lot of the total mayhem forums seem to have died over time, but I only recently discovered the mod. With the total mayhem mod the weapons and guns aren't working, with the sole exception of the machine guns and gatling guns, they have a muzzle flash and recoil animations, but I have watched for two minutes as they don't deal any damage to the target, is there anyway to fix it? I am interested in the mod, but it's near unplayable if none of the guns work.

In order to diagnose your issue - you need to answer a few questions. Are you using the Steam version of FA, or have you downloaded and installed either Forged Alliance Forever or The LOUD Project ?

Where did you obtain the Total Mayhem mod from - and how did you install it ?

I ask these questions as there are 3 different answers - FAF has a unique version, for use with FAF only, that can be downloaded from their mod vault. The LOUD Project has an adaptation of Total Mayhem built-in, and no additional download is required. Finally, depending upon where you got your version of Total Mayhem, it may be out of data, or incompatible with, the final version of the mod that was released, that was compatible with the pre-Steam version of Forged Alliance.

There are a number of versions of Total Mayhem floating around - and I cannot vouch for the state of any of them. I am aware of at least 3 versions, 1.19, 1.20 and 1.21.

I am using steam for the game, I have not installed FAF or the LOUD project, I downloaded the 1.21 version of the mod from ModDb.

Ok - you should be absolutely fine. From the sounds of it, you may be conflicting with some other mod. I can't really answer that question without seeing your game.log file - which will have a great deal of information in it about what may be going wrong. I don't want to make a shameless plug here, but you can reach me directly thru the Discord server for The LOUD Project (also on ModDB) - I'd be happy to help diagnose your problem, and thru that Discord, you can drop your game.log file on me directly, where I can see it. No need to actually install LOUD - the Discord server link is, however, on the HELP tab of the launcher/installer program.

You didnt install the sounds portion of the mod correctly. You need to take the contents from the downloaded sounds folder and put them into the game's sounds folder.

If you're going to try and help people you need to be completely above board about it. I do what I can to help anyone here - and I don't go about posting invitations to the project, but it's important to be clear about what and whom I represent - I won't try to conceal that. That I mentioned the project above was entirely to open a line of communication with the user that wasn't available here - and I made that clear.

It wasn't the sound, they made noise, but they weren't dealing damage. I got it to work though

I installed the loud project, put the files through that, and it worked without a problem, thank's for introducing LOUD, it gives me a lot more to do with the game.

It's just banter without any real intended offense. You're easily one of the most accomplished modders in supcoms short history and its right to be proud of it. I helped with some designs in Total Mayhem back in the day and my mediocre modeling skills give me an idea of how much work goes into such projects.

OP's issue was quite common years ago. People would just drag and drop the mod into the mods folder and neglect the included sounds folder, which contains all the projectiles and explosions. That's why his machine guns work fine, they are the only vanilla FX/projectiles reused by the mod.

I do not mean to resurrect thread a that is 2.5 years old, but how did you end up getting the Total Mayhem mod to work?

I think the inference is that he installed The LOUD Project, and used their adaptation of Total Mayhem.
