[SOLVED] AppHangB1 Error
I get this issue where the game crashes every time within 10-20 minutes, and every time I try to exit normally, assuming it does not crash, I get "APPHANGB1" error, with a grey screen.

Win7 64bit, all latest updates, graphics drivers latest updates. AMD 8350 8-core, Radeon R9 290x

The sound is also a little... off. When I launch from Steam, the THQ and GPG logo videos play, but with no sound, like I'm used to. The NVIDIA logo plays fine, then the opening movie plays with no sound.

Music sometimes comes and goes during gameplay, and sometimes I just get an APPCRASH error.

My PC is more than able to handle this game, but has anyone else had this error / issue?

I tried with Stock Sapphire drivers for my graphics card, and I have tried with the latest updates to my card with the same effect.

Things I have tried (should have mentioned earlier):

Validate game files successfully

Different graphics card drivers

Uninstall and reinstall the game

Run as Administrator

Compatibility mode set to WinXP SP3

Reinstall DirectX (All of them prior to 9.0c)

.NET framework re-install

C++ Redist Reinstall

Tried it on Windows 10 instead of Win7, same exact issue.

Any other suggestions?

Allright, so I went and tried out your suggestions:

I'm using a genuine Windows 7 x64 Professional, so, no, that's not the issue ;)

Googling a Radeon R9 290x reveals it's AMD, not nVidia. Regardless, the latest drivers are installed.

I checked for Avast, AVG, McAfee, they do not exist as this is a brand new clean install of 7 Pro.

I did a clean boot with msconfig, with the same results.

This game worked flawlessly in the past, so I'm wondering why it's not working now. No hardware changes in the last 3 years.

Any other ideas?

The sneaky bugger to cause hangs that people over look is your sound card drivers, (GLARES at his soundblaster card)......It was using stock win 10 drivers which had gone over the top of the old installed drivers and wasnt showing as out of date, installed all from Soundblaster site and weird crashes stopped.

Well, I went to go download the latest Realtek drivers, uninstalled the old, installed the new, rebooted, (drivers were 3 years out of date), and... the same issue.

True, it is an oft over-looked issue, but that didn't seem to solve my problem. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Anything else I'm missing?

The thing that solved the issue is that the game does not like being on storage larger than 2TB, even if it's on an array, or a partition.

To solve this, move your game over to a drive that has less than 2TB of space.

Everything works as intended.
