Some people prefer Steam because we already bought the game here. Some people feel like FAF is virus ridden. And some people are just too lazy to download the FAF client and other ♥♥♥♥. I played on FAF, virus blocker went off like the fourth of July. So I'd prefer not to.

haven't seen a single virus on FAF

My virus blokcer also advised me not to but i did it anyway and no problems so far.

So they don't have a github ? The FAF code is not audited ?
Mr. Smith Dec 24, 2016 @ 2:41am
The whole FAF code is open source, or at least the client side.
Antivirs just dont like the .msi installers

I have the steam game and use FAF for multiplayer, mods and custom maps, don't see what is wrong with it.

https://www.faforever.com/ Very good open community with MP / COOP / MODS

only reason I do not have FAF is because it is closed scourced. Meaning they could slip in as many viruses as they wanted and you would never know. So although the FAF community is much more alive than the basic FA, it's just not worth getting your computer wrecked for an expansion of an already perfect RTS game.

That is being pretty paranoid man, what reason would they have to do that?

a lobby that crash with almost every action and only have one thread to handle every function of that lobby client? no thank.

btw, how much those faf pay you to advertise their lobby?

They don't pay anyone to advertise. Lots of FAFer's shamelessly advertised their lobby with spam posts for years while bashing FAF "haters". The original dev even wigged out and tried to delete everything so it couldn't be used or recovered because he had a temper-tantrum, leaving the FAF community to try to rebuild it with various builds they had on their HDD's. FAF community has sour apples including it's creator, but I will be honest and admit there are lots of good people in there too. The kicker, if you act nice initially and build a rapport even the sour apples can warm up to you.

Ignore the shameless advertising and the crappy people, give FAF a shot and try meeting some of the good fellows in there to see if you enjoy it. I gave it a shot and did not like it nor the community as a whole but met a few good guys. If you are like me simply play Steam version and organize games privately with people you know you get along with. FA goes on sale for $5 or less quite often so I got copies for friends and family.

I just use it for easy access to the custom mods and maps, plus the co-op campaign that steam does not offer at all. I don't see how faf is as bad as some people say it is, and I don't even play the game that much. But when I do its faf just because of the mods and maps. I don't really know anything about the backstory to it.

24 hours after re-downloading my SupCop games I learned about FaF so I tried it out. Sure its got a decently sized community and theres always games running, but I will agree theres some bad apples in the mix. Joining a lobby for your first game will stick you with a big fat 0 for games played, so many times im waiting for a lobby to fill up and a guy will come in, type "nope" and leave.

Other than that and the potential ping problems from playing with people all over the world, I recommend FaF over the Steam servers.
