Just got this game, and wondered if there any mods out there that are a must.

Yes, may I say and I am sure I speak for all that mods are a creative gift from individuals that go out there way to please others, we the players salute you.

I like your train of thought there ZaidusRecon, those what you mention sound great !
speed2 had a nice idea for a custom mission where you play an aeon commander who has to escape QAI
guys if you search up supreme commander forged alliance mods then the second or third one down is on game watcher thats where i got all my mods and they work fine and are good fun sooooooooooo go try it out

Late reply to the thread :-) But I for one am very grateful to the guys at FAF who have created a FA hub with tournament games, mods, maps, chat etc etc and personally i play with many mods includingg the Blackops series, Total Mayhem, Dairy Farm, Brewlan etc etc. We usually play with around 8-9 mods and the amount of work involved in just creating new units or maps is phenomenal and has to be applauded. New units alone involve 3d modeling, texturing, rigging, scripting etc and map making isn't a doddle either. The currently developing 'FA Forever Map Editor' by Ozonex looks slick as hell....awesome job and cannot wait till it is finished.

Brewlan 0.8 has a whole bunch of additional sub mods that come with it too but (only with the whole download from ModDB etc. The FAF vault Brewlan 0.8 is the core mod only.

Go on to the actual forged alliance forevor forums there you will find most mods updated. Heres the latest Total Mayhem mod 1.36 instead of 1.21 like moddb. http://forums.faforever.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=12248

There is no official version past 1.21. Burnie (author of the mod and person I know) burned out and stopped working on the mod after 1.21. If you see any version higher than that it's simply a revision/rebalancing/streamlining of 1.21 made by an entirely different person. Burnie has been gone for years.

Mmmm. Looks like the newer version/rework was by 'Uveso' according to FAF forum
