FAF dropping connections
I know this isn't the FAF forums, but I wanted to post it here as I suspect these forums are probably more active and I don't want to forget I posted this thread.

Anyway, recently I have had a problem when trying to play with friends that when one of us hosts and the other connects, one of several things happen.

1. the person connecting to the host gets an infinate "Connecting" screen
2. all players join the lobby but as settings are changed, suddenly one of us loses connection and it never comes back until the host re-hosts the lobby
3. Friend's lobbies in the "play" section of FAF don't show up but everyone elses does.

These problems have only been happening recently, and to all 3 of us, no matter who hosts. Any idea of a fix? Takes like 10 tries to get a working match up and running.

Don't know if this helps but, Having a powerful computer when i had the settings on medium to low i had the odd crash, and sync errors,

Turning all the graphics settings to full (which my two computers can handle) seems to fix the crashing, I don't know about the sync errors because i haven't played anyone in a while.

But yeah, If your computers can take it, Crank the settings up (if you haven't already).
If it works i'd love a techie to explain why. :militaryStar:

I think I already do, that seems unlikely and more of cooincedence lol, usually the higher the settings the worse the outcome lol

will make sure they do though

You should try to replicate your issue and post logs on the FAF forum so that someone can take a look at it.
Other than that i can only suggest to let someone host who doesn't have your issue.

Connectivity issues could be down to an improper port setup, or mismatching FAF installs (unlikely but still possible), or even program permissions. As has been said, the best way to go about figuring out what the problem is exactly is to test connections with other players and refer to FAF documentation and forum techy-techies.

I just checked back on FAForever.com (it's been a while ^.^;), and there are two different versions of the lobby - the stable ("official") one and the alpha one. All players must use the same version of the FAF lobby in order to connect to the same game.

I might as well link the FAF documentation for connection issues here as well:

I'll try some of these things, but for clarification, all 3 of us have this issue, no matter who hosts we usually end up having connection issues to each other until it randomly decides to work. We used to never have this issue.

On a side note, the vanilla steam version's multiplayer works fine, but I was wondering, when we played seton's clutch, on the pre-game lobby map we would always click the grey commander slot where we wanted to start and it would move us to that slot in the lobby, but when we actually launch the match it throws all the players in random start locations, even the AI. Also the start position icons don't change to your color when you click them, but it does change what slot you are in. Its weird lol

Do you and your friends only have that issue if you try to play a game with AI or even without AI?
If the spots on the map preview are greyed out you have the spot settings on random/balanced instead of fixed.

yea with the AI, I never looked at the options, always used FAF, will be sure to look next time lol, thanks

The AI thing is a known issue and will be fixed soon

I was meaning in the vanilla launched from steam version of FA, not FAF, FAF works fine in the map placement regard. I guess I just forgot to check options on vanilla FA because I never use it for multiplayer lol (we used vanilla FA a few times because FAF kept messing up)
