- melee a lot during early stages and save ammo
- loot a lot but don't stay for too long on a level because wolves start spawning
- hiring multiple companions and leveling them up is a game changer. Companions don't waste ammo so give them powerful weapons (thus they deal more damage and level up faster). Another conclusion is that having a "healer" trait can be really useful here
- when encountering a boss move cursor to the left so you can explore/loot more before boss starts engaging
- charachter with a lot of starting hp is the best for me so far
Companions don't level up or even have levels
They do level up this way: more damage they inflict, more xp they got. More xp they got, more hp they have.
You're right. I just read about this in the wiki. Funny how there's little to no info inside the game itself.
Yeah this game could do with an in-game Encyclopedia but I have to refer to the Wiki for now. Very good work the person(s) who made and added to the wiki. Reminds me of how Kingdom Two Crowns also doesn't have an encyclopedia, whether if it's a design decision, I still think it helps an aweful lot. As to make sure they don't spoil the discovery of certain enemies and weapons/items in the game, they should make it so once discovered, the stats and background are unlocked and ready to view at any time. I've seen this feature in MinMax Games' Space, Pirates and Zombies 2.
Also - are there any shortcuts to later zones like in Spelunky?
-A precision heavy ammo rifle with any reliable fast-ish reloading light ammo gun is easy mode. You can plink enemies to death before they even set eyes on you - even from offscreen if you can aim at those question marks pretty good.
-Make sure to have some high dps before you walk into the stage 3 boss.
And preferrably something with really good armor damage and/or penetration. The aforementioned heavy ammo rifle can usually accomplish this handily.
- speed/mobility is super important. Also, speed depends on direction of your cursor. Running away from the enemy while facing them with the cursor ("running backwards") makes you significantly slower
- if you leave you companion too far behind, he will not join you in the next level
- 0 companions is the best amount of companions
- olaf is arguably the best character. His best loadout includes light bolt rifle, which normally appears in the 2nd half of the run.
- its ok to return back for re-supply; however, it's kinda boring and you can never get back to boss levels so take all good stuff from those levels
- study the wiki, especially weapons section
- don't be afraid of facing 1-2 wolves if you still need important stuff to do (collect loot, free prisoner), after a couple of first levels u should be able to beat them just fine
- its ok to adjust run settings (unlocks are still happening, achievements may not)
- if you dont kill slaves agressive slaves wont spawn in the first boss level
- second boss traps are not worthy (only for achievment unlock) and it's likely you step on them eventually
- third boss will turn around if you try to get behind his back
- each level before boss level has prisoner in the coffin; save some tnt to set him free. also never miss prisoners as they give you upgrades (and you can find em by sound they produce)
- powerful rifles can kill shielded enemies in one or two shots, may be no need to hit them specifically in the back where there is no shield
- buffalos are not worthy until you have a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of ammo to waste
- your attacks are far more potent when enemy is unaware of your presense; insta-kill snakes and scorpions before they spot you
- learn proper dodging. if you start reloading and then dodge, reloading won't be cancelled
- land mines can instantly ruin your run during later stages; they are way more dangerous than any other regular enemy, so better watch out
- in the first stage destroy coalmine exits with tnt for more loot
- traders have useful stuff at times and it may be worth the price; you can also just kill a trader and collect some minor loot (ammo, mainly)
- stabilize crosshair for more accuracy (it becomes smaller after you stop moving). can be a big deal
- if you complete the run with rare weapon, this weapon becomes a permanent loadout option for that character
- best upgrades regardless of playstyle are: athlete, hp boost, fast reload, incendiary
- be systematic when exploring levels. Avoid visiting same place twice if it's not for re-supply or when retreating
Every weapon has a different timing for it, and ones with short reload times tend to have a longer window of opportunity. Some weapons like the small bow can be fired close to twice as fast because their reload window is massive.
Step 2- Find a primary weapon and keep cannon for minibosses/bosses
Step 3- Get explosive dmg upgrade and explosion immunity
Step 4- Look around around for dynamite amap. Get ammo+ upgrades and healing+.
Step 5- Wreck bosses with your explosions.
Step 6- Find Improved Repeater or Heavy Revolving Rifle to 1hitKO crowds
Step 7- Wreck final boss with your explosions.
Step 8- Give your wifey an OP high ammo usage weapon like Auto Rifle or Mega Volley Gun. Don't give her a short range weapon cuz she'll go get herself killed.
Step 9- Order your wifey or squad to take defensive positions when enemies are near
Step 10- Let your wifey or squad take out most enemies to save ammo
Step 11- Buy ammo for your main weapon, and MORE DYNAMITE!
Step 12- Reach the first level again, but don't exit yet
Step 13- Ask your squad to stay, then get your mates to follow, but not the wifey
Step 14- Congrats, you've started a looped run
Step 15- Repeat from step 4.
Don't forget to dodge! Flashing exclamation marks mean you need to roll. As long as you don't hit an enemy or obstacle you get i-frames.
Healing+ upgrade is excellent for late-game. Each boss gives you extra hearts, but enemies start taking extra hearts, too. This upgrade makes it so you can keep up with the damage and makes finding a single health bottle so much more relevant.
Only reload cannon once ammo is out. Each reload takes 1 or 2 dynamite regardless of ammo left.
Always ignore shield and hasard-resist upgrades. Shields are rare and even with upgrade are very flimsy and only protect the front. Hasards are also rare and is only slightly useful if you have fire-damage upgrade.
Only get a companion if you have a rapid-fire weapon to give them. They always have very ♥♥♥♥♥♥ aim at the start and only gain xp if they hit. Giving them any Volley Gun is the best cuz they'll at least land 1 hit most of the time, plus they never run out of ammo. As they level up (they flash blue) their aim will get better and they'll dodge attacks. Once they get around 15 health you can give them a hard-hitting gun like a sniper.
A good trick to beat final boss is to assign companions up top and you take position down below when fight starts. They'll shoot the boss getting his attention, but if you deal damage to him he'll move his aim slowly back down towards you. Using this trick you can save a lot of damage on your buddies, get a lot of damage on the boss and you'll get hits on his unprotected back. Don't forget to throw dynamite too. For straight-line fire, simply dodge through it. When he gets low-health and starts spray-firing, take cover behind something resistant (if you can). Stay at a distance and use a long-range weapon to make it easier.
Upgrades in order of priority for this build :
-Explosive immunity (you can fire cannon at point-blank range)
-Max ammo (carry >5 dynamites)
-Ammo belt (carry >5 dynamites)
-Stronger TNT (dynamite and cannon have wider explosions & more damage)
-HP drop boost
-Extra HP
-Athelete (faster movement speed & faster dodge cooldown)
-Fast reload (great with any gun/crossbow/cannon)
