When you launch a Ubisoft game from Steam, you will be prompted to log in to a Uplay account, or create one if you have not already done so.
Ubi's official word on the topic:

We Steam plebes have to wait for 17:00 UTC (or, noon U.S. Eastern Standard Time) for the game to unlock. When it does, launch it in Steam, log in to UPlay, and bam, you're all set. :)
how game industry works? you mean every day a new launcher pops up and that's a good thing to adapt? it's more like being a simpleton.
1 platform, 1 game library, 1 friends list, Steam.
if others wanna divide it because they can't see Valve making progress then that's their problem and they can cry all they want.
i don't wanna get stuck in corporate wars, for us users the best thing is to have everything in one place cuz it's on the same platform ffs. when you're on the same platform then exclusivity means nothing, but we see some companies are so dirty and greedy and use that.
im talking about epic(crap)store here.
Uplay forcing games to have that client besides Steam is fine, it's not too heavy for now so i can let it run. sometimes they make it 3 way. Steam + denuvo + uplay. LOL
but don't think just because you don't see something then it doesn't exist.
not all programs have a fancy UI.
Will never buy ubi soft game because of the forced account I must have with them... same as ea.
You're all simple fools." the original comment you never once mentioned epic ♥♥♥♥ store
But what you should have said was you'll never buy a game on Steam, because when you by an Ubisoft game on Steam you're forced to launch it through Steam.
Ubi's game, Ubi's launcher. They're hardly the first company to do that, and I don't mind it as long as I can connect through Steam. What I DO mind is when they decide to go to exclusive marketplaces, like Epic.
