No DirectX 10?!?! No Thank you.
I had the original and enjoyed it and was excited to see this come back on Steam. However, on the original the difference the DirectX 10 and 9, especially in 64 bit and high resolution textures and anisotropic filtering was night and day. This is at least graphically a greatly inferior product than the original if you can't support any of the technologies or features that made the original look good at the time of release.

What you have here is now a dated game, that we are being forced to play at the low settings, even on much newer and more powerful hardware than what was available at the original release. This is just ludicrous and irritating.

EDIT- At first glance of seeing thread title figured it was just someone whining and complaining but after reading here and there in this thread feel i was wrong and editted my thread and saying im sorry for acting without reading just get sick of seeing so many threads bout the game being so horrible...sometimes i just lose it and thats not a right way to react.

Hmm, to state a difference of night and day between DX 9 And DX 10 on a game as old as this is overdoing it somewhat.

Slightly would be more appropriate.

There is still a buttload of games, especially MMOs that still use DX9. Anything can look great with a regular re-skin and still using DX9.

DX10 is NOT a factor for the gameplay imo.

No, the differences were pretty drastic, from reflections, hair and face modelling (due to tesselation), volumetric smoke and fog effects. This game was built to showcase DX10 and the DX9 version alternatively looked really flat.

Plus the 64 bit executable and DX10 together had much better framerates and stability than the 32 bit DX9 versions. Especially on anything newer than an 8800 GT or any core i5 or i7 CPUs.

I would agree in most cases DX10 is not a big deal, but in this game it was. As I said, the differences graphically and peformance-wise were pretty dramatic.

No doubt, but I'm still implying the game is perfectly playable without.
Yes, the overall graphics are not ace, but I'm the oldschool nerd that prefer gameplay over graphics and I enjoyed a buttload of hours back then, and doing it again :)

i think it looks pretty much like the original but somehow im getting terrible lag. it cant seem to handle big swarms of enemys. witch is what the game is about. killing swarms of enemys

Uhmm I still have the Hellgate Revival installed, and it runs on DX10, and it does look much better. Weird thing: If I make a character in Revival, it loads in the newer steam version... and looks way better, so im extremely confused about it.

I even tried to use the revival patch for dx10 on the steam version but it didn't work, sadly. Still, like I said, I have the revival fan-patched version, and if I make a character there it looks better (both the character and the game), and then when I start the steam version, it still looks better. Its the strangest thing.

I just tried making a bunch of new characters to check I wasn't hallucinating it, and nope, it is a thing, for some reason.

I just installed hellgate london off my old disk to compare to this version ,
wow the difference is night and day they butchered the crap out of this one.

Even the animations have been dumbed down jeez.

But with that said the stuff they added from the mmo is nice auto dismantle and such.

Throw some screenshots if this is the case. DX10 was not even out when Hellgate was released back then. I remember NO difference to the old release compared to now. I don't recall any animation changes either.

It may have been different in the later patches or when it jumped IP, but I didn't play after that.

I will when i get a chance, Ive been playing at 2038 online , the animations seem the same with this what through me off is single player on the original for blade master has a little different swing so mabey it was just the single player part

and your right dx10 adds nice touchs but not that much of a difference.

its really the textures after playing all night on the original why they replaced them with such crappy ones doesnt make sense.

Thought I would drop this here at the bottom it explains the problems DX 10 brought to the game.
