Yakuza 3 Remaster Possible Leak
On the Yakuza games subreddit someone noticed that the German YouTube channel "Rocket Beans TV" has Yakuza 3 as part of their Gamescom stream schedule on their site.

https://rocketbeans.tv/sendeplan

Here is the site, if you go to the 21st and look through you will be able to see it.

Obviously it could just be for PS4 but considering Yakuza Kiwami 2 took about 9 months to come to PC and SEGA have said they want to close that gap even more in future releases, hopefully in about 6 months we'll at least have news for a PC version.

Anyway what do you guys think about this?

Wow. I really hope for a release date. Since it's been long anticipated, hopefully it would release in the West on around this September, at least on PS4. Ideally, it would be same day on both, but hey, one step at a time! :)

Sega did say that they're looking into simultaneous PC/console releases for the Yakuza series:

https://www.pcgamesn.com/yakuza-pc-games

A simultaneous PC and English PS4 release is definitely possible, but it's not confirmed, there's still a chance that they'll do a English PS4 release first. We should wait until 20th when Gamescom begins and we'll see how it goes.

if it will be anything, it will be a PS4 announcement, like always, PS4 is the priority for Sega

Sega is in the habit of working with streamers &c. to promote upcoming releases, so this could well be indicative of a coming PS4 release. The image on that webpage is the splash screen from the PS3 version FWIW (the original JP cover image before it was colourised & had the cigarette airbrushed out, with the Western title logo).

Simultaneous PC / PS4 release is technically possible but would involve some tricky project planning with much potential for things to go wrong: whatever external studio had the port outsourced to them would need to use the Japanese PS4 version as a code base and fill with placeholders for translated text / UI elements since . . . well, I've posted here about the whole mess of Yakuza 3 PS3 ad nauseam, short version is the localisation needs *serious* work.

It's RGG Studio's priority, I'll give you that (well, that and the mobage) but under the "packaged games" sector Sega's biggest franchises include Football Manager & Total War which are PC titles, Yakuza series is now considered PS4 / PC, the recent investor presentation mentions "Growth of new platformers [sic] such as Steam" as a factor in a better-than-expected performance in "packaged games" (helping to offset losses from overspending on developing mobile games, some of which got cancelled prior to launch).
Source[www.segasammy.co.jp] (see p. 10).
Another one[www.segasammy.co.jp] (see p. 36).

EDIT: fixed broken sentence.

Yeah I didn't even think of that aspect of it. That would definitely make it harder if work has already started on it but I still doubt that it has unfortunately. I still expect a PS4 release first even if a PC version isn't too far away.

To be honest at the moment I just hope that it is actually real even if it is just for PS4 right now. Just because SEGA has been so quiet about the western release for the remasters, I've been starting to worry that they weren't coming.

I personally feel that if PC was as high of a priority as SEGA claims, then the PC ports would be done with MUCH better care and would not be outsourced; likely, they would try to get the RGG Studio themselves to help do them, to avoid other studios not fully understanding the code and whatnot. For example, PlatinumGames themselves were directly involved with the PC port of Bayonetta, though there was help (not full control) from another studio.

Either way, I'm fine with the game releasing on PS4 months before PC.

Here I had no hope left seeing the interview from June with the head dev saying no plans of a Western release of 3-5. I just want them all on here, I can emulate Dead Souls and the other spin offs with the discs I own. But a definitive version of 3-5 on PC so I can have 0-5 and eventually 6 giving me all 6 main Yakuza games will be great.

RGG doesn't have the time or expertise to do that. Ideally they would, but they're a relatively small japanese company. What we really need is for QLOC to never handle another port. The first two games were excellent, eventually. QLOC seems to have ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off and we're probably never getting any of these performance issues addressed. all of their fixes were really simple, interns probably handled it all.

I'm fine with it being on PS4, I just want to finish up everything before playing 6.

The interview I read (at E3 back in June) seemed more like a case of Hosokawa refusing to comment due to a marketing-driven NDA, since Sega's western operation were going all out trying to sell Judgment to Yakuza series fans with PS4s.

My thoughts exactly. I recall him saying that it was best not to say anything; and as far as I know, that’s pretty different from “We have no plans”.

While I agree they don't have the time, I doubt they would not be able to port for PC, even for a first time. After all, PlatinumGames had their first time too. Usually, they would not do it by themselves anyways.

Keep in mind they ported 3 games from the PS3 to PS4 in less than a year, which is honestly amazing to me. Keeping in mind that the PS3 hardware (especially the processor) was completely different from PS4, which did not make porting any easier.

Besides, when Toshihiro Nagoshi was asked back in the day if his teams are capable of only developing for certain platfroms, he did emphasize that one really requires a team that can develop for anything. It is very possible they have many different programmers with a wide variety of skills too.

Anyways, I'm going off topic, but yeah. QLOC should not handle another port, but I really think at least SEGA Europe should get an in-house team to handle the ports to PC, to avoid these issues, IF the RGG Studio absolutely cannot ever help.

Yakuza series is now considered PS4 / PC
that is a lie and you know it, Yakuza is considered PS4/PC? NOW? after PlayStation had what? 7 Yakuza games exclusively for what? 16 years? NOW its PlayStation/PC? look at the new Yakuza with the new protagonist, all they talk about is PS4, why aren't they saying PS4/PC? it's coming to PC right? yet all i see is PS4, same with Judgment, why do they have to say that they're "considering" a PC port? why don't they say, hey, it's coming, you have to learn to separate Sega Japan from Sega US & Europe, it's Sega Europe that wants all these games on PC and considers Yakuza PS4/PC, Sega Japan, just like Atlus Japan si all about the PS4, look at the newest games, Sakura Wars, PS4 Exclusive, Persona 5 Royal, PS4 Exclusive, Catherine Full Body, PS4 Exclusive, New Yakuza, PS4 Exclusive etc. etc. etc.

SEGA Japan definitely have their preference for releasing things on PS4, that is clear, however the investors and the people in charge of SEGA as a whole are the ones calling the shots and they have expressed that they consider the series a PS4/PC one.

You have to remember this is a very new direction and games like Judgement and Shin Ryu Ga Gotoku have/had been in developement since before Yakuza 0 was even announced for PC and they saw how viable the PC platform was in terms of making money. I think the real test for how far they are willing to go will be with the next title announced which obviously may be some time away because it will be the first one developed with the PC audience in mind.

My thoughts are if SEGA didn't want to bring more titles to the PC in the future why would they say they want to hopefully eventually get simultaneous releases with the PS4 versions and that they are officially considering it a multi-platform series?
