They closed cause this game didn't sell well, which is likely because they didn't finish the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story.
Microsoft actually asked the devs (every company) to pay the fee for patching their game which it's around ten of thousands of dollars, that was NO joke... It's also the other reason why they can't talk about it until recently due to their contrats done with Microsoft. (meaning around 2013)
So, I could guess at the time of today, it was too late since the devs are no longer existed. Due to this:
"On March 19, 2012, the company suffered due to not having enough money, went broke and was ultimately put into administrative control. It is in the process of selling IP and assets, most notably the Hydrophobia series and the Hydroengine." source: http://www.justpushstart.com/2012/03/dark-energy-digital-closes-down/
As you can see, it happened right before microsoft updated their new policy about the patching fees which you can read there: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-06-26-microsoft-no-longer-charges-developers-to-patch-their-xbox-360-games
Hope it helped you understand why it happened.
Update: I ended up buying the Xbox 360 version despite having less content. At $1.79(which I bought with my Xbox gift card, I thought it was worth it).
