Precise steps to enable cheat codes on the Steam version of RTCW?

Feeling nostalgic, i downlaoded RTCW from Steam and have been enjoying killing nazis for a few nights now. but at my chosen level, i'm stuck and want to envoke the cheats to tweek my health to make progress.

+set sv_cheats 1

Back in the Pre Steam days, you'd paste this string to the end of the TARGET in the shortcut.

But in the Steam days there is no TARGET field; but a URL field (as the shortcut points to a web document? On steam?).

I've tried pasting this string to the SET LAUNCH OPTIONS field within Steam, but each time i try it i get CHEATS ARE NOT ENABLED ON THIS SERVER.

I've tried this with and without a space preceding the plus sign. The console is working because i can do other non-cheat things like /kill

I've tried creating a desktop shortcut of the "(Single Player)" version of the game. This produces a TARGET field, but it is not editable.

At this point it feels like i've tried everything i can find, but no Joy.

Assistance please. I want to keep playing but i dont want to dial back the difficulty.

Have you tried to copy/paste it in the console (')? What does it return if you just type /sv_cheats in it?

Also, I know in ET sometimes the map need to be loaded through devmap instead of map in order to get some commands work, dunno for RtCW...

I am having the same issue.
When I type in /sv_cheats it returns "sv_cheats" is: "0" default: "0"
Next, if I key in a cheat code, it returns the standard, Cheats are not enabled on this server

Could you try to add it (+set sv_cheats "1") in launch parameters?

Your suggestion did the trick. Yours is the correct syntax (without the parens) to insert into the launch parameters to enable cheats on Steam RtCW.

in rtcw i would type sv_cheats 1 but it would just say sv_cheats is read only plz help me!!!!!!

Right click on the game in your Steam game list, Properties, click on the Launch Parameters button, and what what I pointed above (without the parens).

If you can't get it work and keep getting the "read only" error, try restarting Steam.

I had entered the correct parameter and it still wouldn't let me enable cheats at all no matter what I tried.

I was about to reboot so I closed Steam before shutting down. Then I wanted to check something else and when I restarted Steam to run the game and it suddenly worked! =o.O=;;

I have tried adding (+set sv_cheats 1) , w/out parenthesis, into launch parameters in steam but none of the cheats seem to work when entered in game console. I have rebooted steam and still NG. Is there ANYTHING else I should be pasting into Launch Parameters in addition to the above? Assume I am an idiot lol.

DOH!! NM, I was not preceding the cheat commands with a "/" (forward slash) , it is always the little things!! Thanks anyway!

Einfach in Steam unter RtCW rechtskloick - Einstellungen - Startoptionen - "+set sv_cheats 1" einfügen und starten. Das funktioniert!

I have set "+set sv_cheats 1" in the launch parameters. Now the fun part is that on the title screen, the console says "sv_cheats" is indeed "1". But when I start a new game, it's then "0" and I can't change it (read only).

Restarted Steam and all, no luck.

The only trick I did was installing the unofficial 1.42c patch to get a 1920x1080 resolution. But the issue is the same with the "vanilla" game.

Any idea?

did you remember to include the forward slash " / " preceeding thecommands in game? (i.e. " " / cmdlist " or " / kill " ? I was just entering text for map change etc w/out the "/" .

Yes I did.

But I found out reloading a map "unlocks" the cheats. Thanks anyway.

Open Up Console and Type In: +set sv_cheats 1
for a test type in /god and /give all
don't give up keep trying and find a way. there's always away.
