"Part of the issue here is just skill balance and has little to do with gear in general. The big problem comes from how the optimal way to build most skills is just to search for the more damage nodes"
You are right using the in game search function for the term "more" is very challenging to making a build.
I'll take LE any day of the week, because I can make any skill work and build around it with items and passives.
Two examples of this are the new weaver idols; their minimum modifiers are stronger than the max roll of the older idols, while also having another stat paired with them.
As for skills, one such skill I've run into recently is the wraithlord mechanic. You don't actually want to summon wraiths with the wraithlord, nor do you want to sacrifice minions. Why? Because he's not attacking while doing those actions, and his attacks are what does all the damage.
And then there's mana builds. Sorcerer building max mana, not to actually use it, but to scale damage. Building max mana for high cost skills generally isn't viable because you got to wait 10 working days to regenerate. It's not intuitive at all.
Where do you get your data from? Most players in any ARPG dont look up builds because making your own build is basically a half of what an RPG is.
It's like an Arcade ARPG, get some gear and mindlessly blast, get some cool unique's, try different builds,
However getting those things are little too easy. By level 20 i had Flame build mage and was doing 20k DMG on hit and like 30k with DoT on 0-mana basic attack, and 40k on hit-60k DoT on a big AOE attack.. Nothing even has a death animation it gets hit and just just disappears. Pretty much trivializes the whole game besides bosses with blue shields.
It's about as easy as D4, powerful unique's just pop out everywhere and Complete Full Set items drop in a group all at once, leveling is so fast. The game is easy, and that's ok. There is absolutely no challenge from the tutorial start till like 200+ endgame corruption (and that's with basic uncrafted gear or Unique/Weavers).
That used to be the case in the past. These days I wouldnt be surprised if most players really do look up builds online instead of making their own.
Would these made up on the fly builds be viable on Abberoth? Maybe, maybe not.
But Abberoth isn't the majority of the endgame, echoes are.
Not only that but thanks to the respec options it's quite easy to adjust your "build" into a proper build.
Falconer obviously, no other class is even a possibility unless they get a birb.
