[Solved]What's the purpose of COF's items having a rank requirement?
EDIT: Ahh so you CAN trade them, person to person, just not through the trade faction. That's the key I was missing, and why a rank requirement exists so you can't gift a rank 5 item to a new rank 1 person and let them use it right away.

Circle of Fortune prevents you from trading items that dropped with its tag. Those items also have a rank requirement that you must be in the faction in order to use the item.

Faction rank is shared between your characters if they join that faction.

So if you can't trade the item to other players, and all your COF characters have the same rank, what's the point in the item requiring a certain rank instead of simply requiring membership with the guild?

Which you always will unless you change factions in which case you can't equip it regardless of its level. So what's the point of the level?

Or am I wrong and a faction level 5 item can drop when you're level 4 or lower?
"Items you acquire as a Circle of Fortune member will have been guided by the stars, and as such will drop with a Faction Rank Requirement. While this requirement on items dropped for you will never exceed your current rank and is never higher than 5, it is important to note that these items cannot be traded, and when gifted the recipient must meet the rank requirement to equip the item."

you can swap factions.

I think that should kind of sum it up.

Not in the slightest.

Once you swap factions you can no longer use COF gear whether it requires rank 1 or rank 9. So I repeat, what's the point of the gear requiring different ranks?

I believe it's to prevent quickly swapping back and forth to use items.

Ex: You find a weapon that is level 6 COF. You swap to Trade Guild and can't use the weapon. You swap back to COF and are now back at level 1, so you can't use the weapon until you rank back up in COF.

You get reset to rank 1 when swapping.

What ? Pretty sure thats not true.
You may switch factions and earn and maintain reputation with them with no penalty to earned reputation with the other.

You keep the rank, but lose current favour and prophecies.

I figured. So I still don't know what's the point of items requiring a certain faction rank when it would be just as effective to require being in the faction.

Ah my bad, really sorry. I think I was going on outdated info, since I also remember devs saying the faction choice would be account wide and not character wide.
