But also, the devs clearly focused on birds and wolves, because i gotta tell you, all the other beasts are lack luster and just, suck in comparison.
The issue is the stats companion, if you only 1 its insanely easy to manage skills, stats and control, but 6 of them? it becomes a chore trying to manage so many stats across so many different beasts.
One of the major factors into why wolf is so good is the fact you can get it to scale with both attunement and strength, pushing the % values upwards of 1000%+ with ease.
You can go poison/bleed stacking if you want, but its not needed and can be very cumbersome when trying to build gear, i had 6 companions when i first reached monoliths, i swapped over to a single doggo and not looked back since.
I doubt we'll see any changes for a long time, beastmaster is in a good place, it does decent damage, and no one is complaining it doesn't stack up against other builds, i'd be impressed if they do make tangible changes to raptor and bear for instance, but storm crows and wolves are currently too king for them to really put any actual time into making those changes.
I would recommend you don't even go minion builds at all, the game feels better to play without them, which is by far why 1 companion feels so much more rewarding to play then 6 - if you wanna go minions, go skeles is about the thing i can say if wolves or crows are not your thing.
The main issue they suck is, you can't have 6 raptors, 6 bears, or 6 scorpions, its too sporadic, a menagerie just feels so crap to use, the game literally screams at you to go 6 wolves, and its insanely easy to do so.

no clue if it will be crap or not
i highly encourage you to play a Necro minion build to get the true beastmaster experience
Golem (x2 and make them blood golem)
Skeletons x 9 (10 with +1 buff from item) / 5 warriors / 5 archers
Skeleton Mages x 5
Transplant Zombies x 4
Wraiths x 8 (temporary minions who's health decays and can be skilled to be blown up by the Skeleton Mages for more damage)
Transplant skill for movement + gives you armor + frenzy/haste for you and your minions every cast
That's 2+10+5+4+4 (25) permanent+8 temporary = 33 minions at once!!
Also, if they die, you click their summon button and summon them again, none of the 'stand near and rez your pet' thing that BeastMaster has to suffer
It'a a balanced build with defense- offense and all of them freeze enemies, the MC melee with Warcry, Gathering storm (converted to ice) and Malestorm, and then kill them one shot.
Sabertooth and my beastmaster are doing the biggest dmg (highest is 1000 or so), with only a yellow staff. I focused the wolves build on getting +1 and max. companions summon, so they are not optimal and I feel that 20 points for their skill are too few because of that.
Until now (mid chapter 9) it was very fun, I even killed Lagon second try in max 5 minutes.
Nobody should use the transplant "zombies" because they're way too squishy and it's not worth the skill points.
Nobody should use an ring that gives them +1 skeleton except MAYBE if you're using Aaron's Will, because it's crap too. Not worth it for 1 more minion.
