Last Epoch

Key bosses are trash
The dungeon before the boss is too long to justify a one-attempt gimmick fight. They're grossly overtuned compared to all the other bosses in the game. It's not fun at all.

If you had several attempts like in Path of Exiles, it would be less frustrating.

Mountain Beneath is especially unfun to deal with. The aoe he drops are very very difficult to dodge. Even with "Shift" as ranger, I barely have the time to react to them.

These dungeons become very much overtuned once you reach around tier 3. They're pretty easy with ward builds, because they're busted, but it's a struggle with everything else.

I agree we should get 3 total attempts for each dungeon. Arena I understand being one and done and those keys are much more plentiful.

I like how that altar for fusing items is locked behind a boss I am to stupid to defeat.
LP means nothing to me. :( edit: I can't "get good" because when I die to her, game crashes and it takes way too long to load up again, go through the dungeon...did it 6-7 times and gave up. (it was tier 1, feel free to laugh :D She does die from dot but after I am already dead)

Are you using the time travel button to dodge her big one-shot spell?

I did Flaming Bastion (or whatever it's called) with a lv 48 sorcerer, breezed through the dungeon. Then I got to the boss, got wiped in approximately 15 seconds by his first AoE. I will agree that these dungeons are not as fun as they could be. On top of incredibly powerful attacks, you're also dealing with an additional resistance immunity switching mechanic, It gets too chaotic and easy to make a single mistake that ends up kicking you out of the dungeon.

I have completed the dungeon before with my Paladin, which was a lot more doable because of the higher survivability of that build.

They do feel like an afterthought to say the least. It's a fun ride then boom head first into a wall.

The dungeon bosses are why I stopped playing the game. It just takes one misclick to waste a ton of your time. The problem is the dungeons are necessary to interact with many of the mechanics in the game, like fusing legendary items. It's just not worth the hassle.

Its interesting how people complain the game is easy but then when hard content comes around they want that changed/nerfed.

Lagon is the best example.
All you gotta do is use your movement ability and dash trough/jump over his laser so it wont kill you. Do people do that ? No thes ask for help in chat or open topics abut how broken Lagon is.

I mean common guys learn the mechanics.

Ngl, this boss is the one i hate the most for this exact same reason, i just farm him at tier 3 dont even need to dodge but yes there should be a bigger interval on boulder drops.

I didn't have a problem with Lagon, but that's because I went to monoliths and outleveled him severely before I had to fight him. Given how busy the screen was when I fought him though, if I wasn't able to facetank all his attacks it would have been impossible to avoid everything that was happening on screen. I can see how he could be a problem if you were forced to try and dodge the attacks.

For myself, I don't like big one-hit kill attacks that you have to dodge. For example I played path of exile for a couple thousand hours but despite everything, and despite getting a character that was quite powerful, I was never able to beat bosses like searing exarch because the fireballs in the fireball phase were too hard to avoid. Eventually I just gave up on trying, and I'm feeling similar with Last Epoch, but after only about 20 hours. There are a lot of things Last Epoch does well, but locking the ability to progress or interact with game mechanics with one-attempt, very difficult bosses is one thing it does poorly.

This decision for you have one try in combination with one shot mechanics is simply the worst game design decision I have ever had to experience. And I've been playing since the 90s. It's extremely frustrating. "You died" .... Start again.

I get you, Gilver. I really wouldn't mind it as much if we had more than one attempt. That way even if you died, you wouldn't lose all momentum by having to go through the entire dungeon again.

I don't think Lagon was difficult at all. All you need is proper gear and his abilities are relatively easy to dodge since there's a wind-up to them. Dungeon bosses though, their abilities are difficult to track, and if they brush you at all, your health just goes down instantly, even with proper gear.

I don't like those bosses, but I respect that you do!

That's pretty much the issue, the dungeon is too easy and boring, and the boss oneshots you. If you want to retry the boss with your acquired knowledge you have to run again thru the boring and easy dungeon.
i'll happily spend a key to retry only the boss and not the whole dungeon
Operation40 Mar 21, 2024 @ 8:14am
what this means for me is, I watch a video of the boss fight before I go in.
because I don't want to have to run thru the whole dungeon again just to learn the boss mechanics. and that sucks. I would rather be able to discover the boss mechanics naturally, without having huge delay between retries.

and the LP nonsense at temporal sanctum is awful - even if I breeze thru on tier1 and steamroll the boss, it's still a huge waste of my time. and only 1 gamba per run? ugh..
Judaspriester Mar 21, 2024 @ 8:21am
All in all I'm somewhat fine with the core design and the decision that you have to do the boss fights in one go. Still for dungeons I would agree that being kicked out of the whole dungeon is a little harsh.

I've just made a few Soulfire T4 runs yesterday. In the boss room I felt like I'm playing a bullet hell game since there is alot of stuff going on and basicly everything is able to 1hit my lvl 98 lich with ~1700hp, ~36% endurance threshold and 57% endurance.
Videogame Jukebox Mar 21, 2024 @ 8:32am
The NPC behind the boss to upgrade gear is my biggest issue in the game. It doesnt even make sense why its there. For the most part, I dont even upgrade the gear any more because its just too much of a hassle to upgrade something. I really dont plan on spending 20 minutes each time to upgrade an item. Screw that. So I dont.

I value my time a little more than that.
