Although I think the reports I saw were mostly about hardcore characters so you may want to try your luck with softcore... even then, there are reports of lost progress and materials.
I have over 100 hours across 4 characters in True Offline and have had 0 rollbacks or vanishing characters.
Game was in development for 10 years, in early-access for 5, delayed half a dozen times - and all the while they were selling items for real cash in-game and supporter packs too.
It's been out for a month now too!
Obviously they didn't have enough time to iron out minor issues like losing progress
But remember: all negative reviews are because of server issues at launch (still unresolved, BTW) and not because the game is absolute trash!
In online Offline mode or Full Offline mode the saves are still on steam cloud. Last Epoch does not have complete system localization. Unlike per'se Grim Dawn which has non cloud saves to your actual system.
Also, make sure your Ethernet and or Network Adapter is up to date on your system. Just that one thing alone helps with many issues we see on this forum.
Happy Gaming!
