Best or favorite Pantheon?
I was wondering what other people choose for their Pantheon in G&K. I have been going Messenger of the Gods (+2 Science for cities with a trade route). What are some other people's first choice? Does it just depend on your Civ and game goals?

Either that or production boost one for me.. Depends on whats around me, food or production.. Your mind set, how you play, would definatley be a factor.. I would imagine your choice is more critical in a scenario..

Do you mean favorite pantheon, or first one used? I dont have a favorite, I choose based on my situation and strategy. First one I used was sacred waters, because I was able to plan all my cities along a river.

Entirely depends on my starting position. Lots of jungle around, I'll pick the +1 jungle culture. Lots of desert, rivers, etc, then those boosters are great.

For larger maps I like to go for the +1 happiness for 6pop one, since I like to expand like crazy. Probably not the most ideal, but it fits my meta pretty well.

Depends on map, but generally will gravitate towards one of the following choices/strategies:

- If not playing a religious Civ, I will try and get a faith-based pantheon. +2 from quarries, +1 from tundra/desert, +4 from natural wonder, etc.

- If surrounded by a lot of jungle tiles, I will usually go with +1 culture on jungle. It can be a long time before jungle is cleared (or never cleared if trying to keep the +2 science from uni), and the early culture really adds up.

- Coastal with lots of sea resources = God of the Sea

- If nothing else is really jumping out at me as "definite advantage" I usually fall back on the +1 happiness after 6 followers. IMO, it is one of the pantheons that is still just as effective late-game as it is early.

It's always a narrow choice between location based boosters (Quarries, Jungle, etc) or either Fertility Rites (10% Growth) or Religious Settlements (15% Border Growth). Both Rites and Settlements provide a permanent boost which affects your whole empire once religious.

Faith Healers (+30 heal in/next to a city) everytime, it is OP.

Thanks I edited op post. My intention was to see what other people choose for their Pantheon or if they have a favorite that they go back to over and over. Lots of variety; I like that.

I especially like the response about the Pantheon that gives a bonus for jungle tiles. I sometimes forget that I don't need to clear all of that jungle out and having the Pantheon that gives me a bonus for jungle tiles would help me remember given the correct map.

I personally choose Fertility Rites, as I generally tend to build a few large cities, and coupled with Swords Into Plowshares, I get some very nice growth rates from Religion. Although I haven't really played as much as some other people, it seems the AI rarely takes said Pantheon.

Assuming someone had beat me to it, then I'd probably end up picking something else that related to population in total, or that has a benefit for solely large cities; alternatively, I'd take one that would benefit specific tiles that I plan to use in any case. A few extra Faith here and these, for example, may very well be what I need to get my Religion out there that much sooner, especially since I don't focus on Religion much, and I often lag behind after founding a Pantheon. I suppose that, assuming I don't grab something that directly benefits me, I can grab something that will allow me to catch up in the areas I don't focus in.

Since i tend to play Egypt alot about 75% of the time would go for Monument to the Gods: +15% Production of Ancient/Classical Wonders, stacks nice with Monument Builders: +20% Production towards Wonder construction. But if i start in ab area with low food yield then go for Monument to the Gods: +15% Production of Ancient/Classical Wonders.

I like to do Fertility rites to get my cities full of population for production, culture, science, and all of that

+1 Happiness for 6 pop; I like to be happy

Messenger of the Gods. I like putting down as many cities as I can as it helps me catch up to the AI tech wise. (Then hopefully securing a religion for the extra happiness boosters). Ultimately setting myself up for a domination victory or a tech victory.

i usually go with more border expansion or more growth rate, they both work for the entire game and it suits my strategy, i recommend trying out all of them to find one that suits your strategy
