"Barbary Pirate
This achievement is not hard to accomplish, but is tricky to figure out. You must play as Suleiman of the Ottomans, and use his Barbary Corsair ability. The Corsair ability means if you have a naval unit enter the space next to a barbarian naval unit, 50% of the time the barbarians will join your navy. You can enter the space next to them, they can enter the space next to you, or they can spawn next to you, it will still count. If a barbarian does not convert the first time this happens, they will never convert, and it's best to sink them and wait for another ship.
The easiest way to earn this is to park a couple of your ships a few spaces away from a coastal barbarian camp. Destroy all units there (there is a limit to how many units a camp can spawn at one time, so keep it clear so ships can spawn). Once the camp is clear, just park within sight range, and wait. When a ship is spawned, move next to it and see if it converts. If not, sink it. If ground units spawn, kill them.
To unlock the achievement, you must convert 10 ships. Using this method, it will not take long at all once you have a reasonable navy built.
This achievement does not work correctly with Gods and Kings activated. To earn this achievement, play the game with Gods and Kings disabled. "
So I guess it does mean, that some achievements cannot be unlocked while playing God and Kings. What a bloody shame...
Seems not, I have captured 13 galleys (plus a few caravels, triremes and galleasses) playing with G+K and BNW and the achievement is still off. Guess I need to repeat in vanilla at some point. Kamikaze I got a while back with BNW on as you did, so guess it is just this one achievement like this now.

I will save many of you who are owners of the Civilization 5 Complete Edition or Civilization 5 with any add-ons owners a huge amount of time. Read the following things and do them before attempting this achievement or you will be wasting your time attempting to get it:
#1 Disable ALL (EVERY SINGLE ONE) of the DLC's and or all or any of the Civ 5 game MODS (no game modifications) before creating the game in which you are attempting to get this achievement.
a. To disable all of the DLC's click on DLC from the main menu after the game application finishes loading up.
b. Click on all the check marks on the right side of the DLC descriptions until they are greyed or blacked out. Make sure to scroll down the entire page to uncheck every single DLC.
c. After disabling every DLC now select Back, and then select Single Player.
d. Select Set Up Game, Suleiman - The Ottomans, Archipelago, Huge Map, Settler, and then essentially whatever other settings you think would help out the most.
#2 You can make more choices in Advanced Setup to specialize other game options, such as Raging Barbarians to increase more barbarian ship encounters, and also to lower other computer opponents, so they won't be killing off barbarian ships.
#3 The achievement will not work in a game where you are required to attack the ships for them to convert. The barbarian ships will become your ship when your ship(s) simply move to any adjacent hex of the pirate ship unit, not from attacking their ships. If you are finding that you must attack the barbarian ships for them to join your forces you need to go back and follow step #1 again.
Note: the barbarian ships only have a 50% chance of converting, if they do not convert then they are not going to, you can attack them if they do not convert.
#4 If the above things are correct continue to acquire more and more barbarian ships until you complete the achievement.
