( Actually the Ai is not the best at fighting wars , and it usually denounces you very often even if you do nothing at all. You can check if you want , however I wouldn't worry about it and just go with the flow.
Other civs/city states will get aggro'd with you for doing it.
Unless you were about to attack the target anyway, then you can agree to it.
Sometimes I will agree to join a war against a distant civ, but participate only halfheartedly ... perhaps snag a trader. Then I wait for a while and often the enemy will offer a Peace treaty with sweet terms - like a small city and gold. I then accept and abandon my erstwhile war buddy
Alexander is just a prick, he is a problem every time he pops up in my games. He will 'play games' be all buddy buddy 1 minute, then declare war 5 turns later. I despise him so much I will go out of my way to kill him early.
I have fought wars as Der Eider suggests, and sometimes will just send a caraval over to do nothing but be a nuisance along the coast. Whether or not I take the cities in the deal depends on the happiness hit.
On serious note, the AI just ♥♥♥♥♥♥.
It's my first game? Why would I know that? I'm still basically just doing my first tutorial game, it just goes for awhile cus my settings are stupid. I went to war in the end because I planned to win anyway without Alexander's help, I just never expected to get back stabbed in such a way.
People keep saying the AI is really stupid...which is a shame, because as a new player that doesn't know much of anything yet, it does some really brilliant stuff. Like, I thought Alexander was a jerk face, but then Dido who was bad mouthing me for awhile, I sent a spy to watch her. I really wish it wasn't just coincidence, I was seriously impressed with the AI thinking it had some really great tactics. Like that thing with Alexander, at this point I'm by far the strongest nation in the world. She keeps bad mouthing me and my spy actually revealed that she was planning to attack several groups OTHER than me, it seems like she was legit trying to get them to attack me, who would wipe the floor with them and make them weak, so she could easily finish them off. Or at least that is what I thought was happening, but it seems it was just coincidence ....
edit: also for the record, I made it really easy setting to learn but my dumb butt made it a large map with making conquest the only win condition so....yeah. I'm winning by a lot but I don't think I win any time soon. I'm beginning to realize that if you're not careful with your set up, the game could literally take months...this one game has been going on for 3 days now and its no where near close to finished. I think. I just hit industrial revolution, I wonder if I can win easily if I just get modern technology while everyone else is still in the Renaissance or something
Pretty much, if you have battleships, tanks, and bombers.
Also, welcome to the world of Civ 5!
thank you!
Ah, thank you. It seemed like you were chastising me for not knowing, I do appreciate the heads up (also what is the community patch?)
