Playing against the same Atlantean and England on only King difficulty archipelago large pap with low water, and its fun!

This question is asked time and time again on all these type games. The answer is always the same, the one you are best with or most comfortable with.

There are obviously better civs than others though.

Generally speaking babylon, korea, poland are top tier civs. With mongolia, arabia, austria and zulu or huns on smaller maps or pangaea. Could be a few I missed but thats all the super op factions I can think of atm. Ofcourse some factions become top tier with different weird maps like England on archipeligo or Incans on Highlands etc.

Yeah you can claim some are more powerful than others in certain conditions as you mention on certain maps and just like all other games again some civilizations are weak against X civ and strong against Y civ. Its just a matter of judging your surroundings and being comfortable with the civ you choose.

While it's true some civs come into the own on certain map types, civs that are based around science or get a stupid bonus like free policies after every new age (Looking at you Poland) are so versatile that they do well on any map and pretty much any victory type.

Generally speaking there's really no X civ beats Y civ. It's not a rock paper scissors type of game and no one faction counters another, except maybe the oddball Greeks vs Austria, but it's really only a soft counter since Austria can still maintain an alliance if it concentrates on one city state at a time.

I mean i can't argue with a person that has 437 hours in the game when i have 53 hours in the game :P

I'm still very new to this game and i have always been an Age of Empires guy so i have finally been giving Civ 5 a chance to see if i like it and i really do. Got me so confused at first with the turn based stuff lol, i still do wonder how some cities can build a building in 3 turns and another build the same building in 23 turns...

Spain is still the most broken civ by far. Banned every game I play.

If you actually think Spain is broken, I don't want to think on your opinions on the civs far better. Spain has good bonuses but as a whole is EXTREMELY situational. Also everytime I see someone says that Austria is a great civ I can't help but to cringe, because honestly I don't find Austria all that great, it's decent but not as good as people make them out to be, but that's just me.

Spain isn't consistently broken, though. Spain has a decent chance of being ridiculous, an arguably better chance of being average, and a decent chance at being worthless, all based on luck. When it's banned, it's banned because it's pretty much a luck-based civilization, and not because of its actual or even typical strength.

If any civ bonus is broken, it'd be Poland.
