Tanning Rack in Early Game?
The tanning rack costs 20 leather which seems like a good bit of leather. I have one in my main base, but I would maybe like to have one in my newer base which is far away from my main base. Should I make a 2nd tanning rack for 20 leather or just move the original tanning rack to the new base?

Leather becomes super easy to accumulate, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Not to mention that at this point the workbench level upgrades aren't too important (there is a later crafting bench where the upgrades mean a lot more). If anything, you can always break down the second one and reclaim the leather to be used for something better if you need to. That's the real lesson here - get used to the idea that any structure can be disassembled and used for something else if you need it. Or you can break apart structures and carry them to a different location if it's helpful (even through portals if there are no ingots in the recipe).

Meat is one of the best early foods by itself and used in really good endgame foods. Which means you should have plenty of leather to make 2. Feel free to deconstruct it though if you want. If you're definitely moving bases that is. There's no point in crafting these in like every outpost and shack you rest the night in.

I just restarted as I was wondering if early bows are harder to use or by the time you get good bows you've just learned how to use the bows well.

Turns out the thing is learning how to shoot in this game, it took me a while but coming back I wreck deer with a crude bow and wood arrows. Just sneak up on them and shoot them with a wood arrow and they should die. Once you learn how the bows work deer are easy game.

For the record I tend to rank slightly bellow average for most competitive ranked games I play so the bow play in this game should be attainable for most folks.

Build a main town-like area, and then have strategic bases on other islands. I personally have only ever built 1 tanning rack at my main base

Early game bows are harder to use. They have considerable drop off from what i've seen.

It's no big deal to deconstruct the first one to build the second one. You'll gather enough leather to rebuild the first one fairly quickly.

I literally just went from level 4 Draugr Fang to the crude bow and learning how the bow mechanics of this game work makes a huge difference. When I started I had better luck hunting deer with a spear then a bow. I ran at them, threw the spear and got the hide, restarting, With my new character I am wreaking deer with a crude bow. Maybe the falloff is a bit different but I understand the mechanics of the bow and its the easiest way to kill most things for me in the stone age.

I would just wait until you accumulate more leather scraps naturally for minimum fuss. Later on you will find more sources of leather beside boars and will no doubt pile up some stacks passively.

In the early game, you will be starved for leather scraps. Boars are just about the only reliable source of leather scraps. Just keep killing boars when you see them for the leather and meat. If you can breed some boars with stars, they can provide a decent trickle of resources.

Early on, you only need to soup up one workbench and one forge. If you find that you need more places with upgraded stations, you can expand as resources become available.
A nice idea is to tame 2 boars. You'll eventually have a steady supply of leathers that way, also meat. Well, of course you need to keep feeding them...

This is all good information. Isn't taming the boars kind of tricky though?

Yes and no. I was able to kite a group of boars for over 3 minutes back to my base, but the moment I got to my gate they freaked out and ran back to their spawn point. I think fire freaks them out but I'm not sure. I ended up harpooning and dragging them one by one through the gate. Once I had them inside a pen it was easy peasy to chuck em some berries and forget about them.

I will say, don't bother taming boars unless you can get a one or two star boar. The normal ones do not reliably drop meat and you end up using far more food feeding them than the normal boars will ever provide.
