Did they reverse the Japanese surnames and given names?
The screenshots show that they kept it in Japanese custom, but in some trailers I saw them reversed the names.

Not buying if the names are reversed.

It seems like someone with more power in the localization team doesn't like the original translations and he ordered to reverse these names.

No purchase.

Your surname is more important so you will still present your family name infront your personal name in any non casual talk

You've never done business with Japanese have you.

I do, and I refer to their names in Japanese custom.

This is without a doubt one of the silliest reasons for not buying a game I've heard. You know, we do tend to write our surnames last when we're dealing with non-Japanese people. We do that to avoid confusion.

If I remember correctly he also complain the same thing with Yakuza 0, so it may not be as silly as you thought

I'm silly? More like the localizers and people who prefer it that way are the crazy ones. It's like going on GTA forum, demanding Japanese or Chinese dub, and reverse the character names with surnames come before given names, like Belic Niko-san or something. If you think that is crazy, then people who translate Japanese games that way are crazy as well when watching from my perspective.

Lol, people care about all kinds of minor issues.
I personally don't think this is an issue at all. English localization is obviously intended for people not accustomed with Japanese culture and names, to be less confusing.

The thing is not only Japanese have that naming custom, it's almost all Asian people have that custom

Funny thing that Asian don't have issue with Western name, but Western people does with Asian name, cool right

It's just the way it is. Maybe because you likely study english at school + western culture is widely popular all over the world, unlike the other way around.

I don't care either way, in Russia we use both naming conventions depending on context or whim.

this minor issue can also become a sign that there are bigger issues in the game, like super liberal translation that disregard accuracy and more like to inflate the localizer egos "hey i can write better than the original writer!". NISA is already famous for their bad translations so this is clearly doesn't help their cause.

i will not going to give this game a "no buy treatement" but it definitely get a red flag and lower priority in my buy list (which is very long already, might take several years to finally clear it .. and that if i don't add more games to the list)

And they're localizing Trails of Cold Steel 3, a very conservative franchise. I bet they're gonna add unfunny jokes to the script.

Reversing the name order when the full name is present is one thing, but what about when the characters are referred to purely by their last name? Swapping out the last name for the first name is a sure sign of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ translation.

It's a discrimination towards East Asian people, refusing to recognize our cultures.

And the screenshots in the store page are misleading, and that's against Valve's rules.

It's called localization, which is adapting confusing product elements for the intended market. The primary market for english localization is obviously the US, secondary is Europe.
