Is this SMG the worst gun in any gun game ever?
I think it might be on par with the Klobb, perhaps even worse.

Claire's SMG? It's actually pretty good against bosses.

The Klobb couldn't slice off a leg in 3 shots or less on any difficulty. The SMG's DPS against boss weakpoints is also absurd.

Claire's SMG is arguably the most useful non-bonus weapon in this entire game. People just don't know how to use it properly the first time around.
Sparkshot is similar. Until you learn how to wield it, you cannot recognise that it does more damage than anything except the infinite minigun and rocket launcher.

the sparkshot is excellent - i don't know how much damage it does exactly, but it's probably in the ballpark of 1500

Yeah i thought it was the 1 acid round that made my 2nd run G1 fight so surprisingly fast. Turns out it was the 30 bullet SMG cartridge i spammed on his eye lol.

After completing the game in rank S in Hardcore you get rewarded with the infinite SMG.

It's arguably the best gun there is, even without the infinite reload. It pops Birkin's eyes quite quickly in the final boss.

It just happens that Claire's other non pistol guns are very strong that the SMG may seem weak.

Not counting bosses, the lowest is 784 on a zombie torso at rank 8, the highest is 3714 on a G-Adult's shoulder eye on rank 3. Without upgrade. The upgrade adds +20% damage to the final explosion, pushing the first one to little under 1000 and the best one over 4500.
So, yes, a lot. Even Leon's magnum caps at 836 on the lowest rank against enemies weak to it.

oh, if you have the exact numbers. How does one SMG bullet compare to one low-grade 9mm bullet? (from either the SLS or the JMP) If it's the same or higher... grats, you changed my mind

SMG is very enemy dependant. On the base rank (R5) against zombies, it does 50 (Leon's handgun is 100, Claire's is 104).
However, the overall base damage of the SMG is 70 (Matilda: 100, SLS: 115). Pretty much nothing but zombies have a damage reduction against it.
However, the SMG can shoot off any zombie limb in 6 bullets on max rank, 2 bullets on lowest rank. Shooting off an arm and a leg will make a zombie functionally harmless unless you walk right over its mouth. It is more effective to get around than any other weapon. Leon's shotgun must connect fully with the head or fully with the waist to make a zombie harmless. And you get your pickups in 2-5 shells apiece, but SMG ammo pickup ranges in the 50-100 area, usually around 80.

Ok, so if we compare the SMG to the pistols as a 2:1 ratio... there does seem to be significant enough smg ammo to make it a worthy alternative.

Still bitter about its seeming uselessness against common zombos

Shoot their legs, BBX. Just one small tap (usually 3 rounds unless you can do really small taps or short clicks) is enough to shoot off a limb. You do not ahve to kill a zombie, you need to make it harmless. If it misses one leg, you are already making it a lot less scary. An arm and a leg makes it unable to do any grabs any more, it can only chomp for 50-66% damage.
