Question about Police chief Brian Irons

(I didn't play the original RE2.)

So....What is he planning to do if he manages to get his hand on DEVIL vaccine? The game doesn't seem to explain his motivation.

Maybe I missed something, but... Where did you get that info from (that he wants to get his hands on vaccine)? Can't remember any of this stuff even tho I tried to read all the files on my first playthrough.

well in the original he was just waiting out the chaos in this i guess he wants the necklace because uh he knew about the virus and the vaccine?

Don't think he wants to get the vaccine, I think he's after the G-virus. Probably to sell it, or for blackmail purposes.

Well, he was looking for Sherry's necklace and since he was secretly working with Dr. Birkin, I assume he knew sherry's necklace is a key to that vaccine storage.

Vaccine storage is also virus storage, so he's most likely after G. Probably to sell it, as Explodium mentioned already.

Even this one explains that he is on Birkin's payroll and has to ensure that the Umbrella HQ does not snoop around Birkin's research, since Birkin was planning to sell the G-virus to another buyer (only implied at being Wesker's company, nobody ever confirmed it, not even in Darkside Chronicles).
When the outbreak happened, Irons simply wanted to get the sample so he can sell it himself and disappear with the money. Both Umbrella and the press got wind of his actions, so he had to get out.
Plus he was always mentally unhinged, and the high stress just pushed his psycho side to the surface.

Although there is always an open door in the lore that he was actually working for the Umbrella brass pretending to work for Birkin, doing double payrolls, and was after the sample because Umbrella pretty much told every agent in the vicinity to get the virus. It was the closest they ever got to Spencer's wish for a working evolutionary virus, they even had Sherry captured by the US government after this game and experimented on for years, hoping to extract the G-virus from her cells, without success.

Guy was about to perform taxidermy on [insert name here who will have her story told in the free DLC next week]. I always believed he was after the G-Virus as part of that, probably to bring people back. Didn't he lose a child himself?

However, the fact remains that he certainly was working with Birkin - albeit likely on a double payroll. Raccoon was always a corrupt city quite literally in the palm of Umbrella, so them having influence over notable services and people is a given. He'd be the one making sure some of the less pleasant aspects of the company wasn't exposed over-much.

In short, corrupt guy in on the whole scheme who got a bit sick of it all and wanted a piece of the cake once it was clear the city was FUBAR.

The buyer was the US army. Confirmed in a RE3 file plus some extra info from the writer itself in an interview. ORC also expands on this scenario.

the woman on the table was the mayors daughter. not chief irons daughter.
he had the hots for her (at least in the original) and wanted to have her be his forever.

that was in the original version where claire also leaves on her own.
but now in the remake ending they stay together.
so that part is most likely already changed. or a different time line.
