I know EA didn't pay ♥♥♥♥ for licensing and they just dare risking their ass to be sued (Battlefield 3/4).
Got proof to backup this statment? I'd love to see such info.
The devs of No More Room In Hell 2 told me that except of old WWII guns (MP40, StG44... etc) some military designations of the firearms also won't have licensing problem normally (Like M16, XM1014... etc).
All the guns in RE7 are fake guns..
G17 is obviously a glock 17
MPM is a Makarov pmm
M37 is a mixture of a remington 870 and a mossberg 500
m21 is a browning citori
p19 is a pp-19 bizon
They didn't pay licensing fees for them and guns have unique models apart from there real life counterparts.
Found that info in some forum posts.
I just assume it to be true since EA always emphasize that "This game no way endorses any real world manufacturers of the equipments featured in the game"
Actually, Chris' and Jill's handgun in RE1-RE3 was just called Beretta M92F (or M92FS). Even in RE Remake, the name "Samurai Edge" is nowhere to be seen until you unlock the actual Samurai Edge, which would be:

But then, for some reason, it seems that after RE Remake just literally every handgun any STARS members has is called Samurai Edge too.

Edit: actually it seems the pistols they had in the original were indeed the same thing. I guess they just had not decided to call them something special until later.
Second Edit: and yes, every main story STARS member had one. https://residentevil.fandom.com/wiki/Beretta_92F_Custom_%27Samurai_Edge%27
In the RE Remake the guns are called Handgun.
Handgun
A S.T.A.R.S. custom automatic. Fires 9mm Parabellum rounds.
They didn't buy weapon licensing in the Remake.
That's the thing, the Samurai Edge was still being developed at that time, so the handgun Jill and Chris used in the first games would have been regular Beretta M92F. The Samurai Edge in REmake, as an unlockable, is basically a weapon "from the future" that's not supposed to be available at that time.
I mean, maybe Barry got "Early access Samurai Edge" for being close friend of Kendo, but that was it. Now modern RE games just call every STARS handgun Samurai Edge, despite most if not all STARS never actually got to use the Samurai Edge since the team was disbanded by chief Irons after the events of RE1.
"The prototypes were tested by select S.T.A.R.S. members, namely Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker"
Barry's weapons is a 44 Magnum. Called Barry's 44 Magnum. (in the remake)
The samurai edge doesn't make an appearnce again until Revalations 2.
IE its not in RE2, 3, 4, CV, 0, RV1, 5, 6, 7.
The samurai Edge is in
Resident Evil 1 remake
Resident Evil Revelations 2
I don't know why you think RE series calls every starts handgun "samurai Edge?
