Why didn't Capcom buy firearms licensing anymore?
The best thing I like about RE5 is that it features real world guns with real world names. (Seems to be the only RE in the series that did this though)
From RE6+, most guns are ugly hybrid firearms with fake names.

Why don't they do it anymore? Is it crazily expensive that Capcom cannot afford? Also, don't the manufactures want their products to be featured in such AAA titles? It's basically free promotion.

But this is what I am telling, that so far it seems they are doing that. RE7 two years ago also had real-world gun names (Glock 17 shortened to G17, Winchester Model 21 and 37 as M21 and M37…), so there is no indication that the core series ever stopped doing real-world gun names.

I just feel it could improve the overall game immersion if they include 1:1 real life guns in the game, adding some real world credence, you know? Like older Metal Gear Solids did.
Game devs didn't have to pay for licenses back then, its why you see real gun names a lot more back in the ps1 era.
Would this also be the case for RE5?
I know EA didn't pay ♥♥♥♥ for licensing and they just dare risking their ass to be sued (Battlefield 3/4).

Got proof to backup this statment? I'd love to see such info.

Yeah, that's one way to avoid being sued if you don't want to pay for licensing. Unfortunately, the guns in RE7 all look horrible comparing to their real life counterparts.

The devs of No More Room In Hell 2 told me that except of old WWII guns (MP40, StG44... etc) some military designations of the firearms also won't have licensing problem normally (Like M16, XM1014... etc).

All the guns in RE7 are fake guns..

G17 is obviously a glock 17
MPM is a Makarov pmm
M37 is a mixture of a remington 870 and a mossberg 500
m21 is a browning citori
p19 is a pp-19 bizon

They didn't pay licensing fees for them and guns have unique models apart from there real life counterparts.

I also dislike the dumb made-up weapon names, such as Matilda, Elephant Killer, and Samurai Edge. Especially because not only RE5 had real weapon names, but also Revelations 1, RE0, 1, 2, 3 and CV. 0-CV show you the weapon model when you examine them in the inventory.

Found that info in some forum posts.
I just assume it to be true since EA always emphasize that "This game no way endorses any real world manufacturers of the equipments featured in the game"

Well I can't argue the other ones, but Samurai Edge pistols were custom made guns from Kendo's Gun Shop, so they have a reason not to have a real name.

Actually, Chris' and Jill's handgun in RE1-RE3 was just called Beretta M92F (or M92FS). Even in RE Remake, the name "Samurai Edge" is nowhere to be seen until you unlock the actual Samurai Edge, which would be:

But then, for some reason, it seems that after RE Remake just literally every handgun any STARS members has is called Samurai Edge too.

Whao. They even had the nerve to add "Beretta" in the game. Most game developers who don't want to pay for licensing would just describe the gun as M92/M9 pistol and be done with it.

In RE3 there was a fax from Kendo's Gun shop about custom made handguns for STARS called Samurai Edge. It is a specialized verson of a berretta, to be fair, but still good enough reason to call it that instead of Berretta. They had yet to be delivered though, is why they only have regular berrettas in the games.

Edit: actually it seems the pistols they had in the original were indeed the same thing. I guess they just had not decided to call them something special until later.
Second Edit: and yes, every main story STARS member had one. https://residentevil.fandom.com/wiki/Beretta_92F_Custom_%27Samurai_Edge%27

In the RE Remake the guns are called Handgun.

Handgun
A S.T.A.R.S. custom automatic. Fires 9mm Parabellum rounds.

They didn't buy weapon licensing in the Remake.

That's the thing, the Samurai Edge was still being developed at that time, so the handgun Jill and Chris used in the first games would have been regular Beretta M92F. The Samurai Edge in REmake, as an unlockable, is basically a weapon "from the future" that's not supposed to be available at that time.

I mean, maybe Barry got "Early access Samurai Edge" for being close friend of Kendo, but that was it. Now modern RE games just call every STARS handgun Samurai Edge, despite most if not all STARS never actually got to use the Samurai Edge since the team was disbanded by chief Irons after the events of RE1.

From the link I added in my edit:
"The prototypes were tested by select S.T.A.R.S. members, namely Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker"

Barry's weapons is a 44 Magnum. Called Barry's 44 Magnum. (in the remake)

The samurai edge doesn't make an appearnce again until Revalations 2.

IE its not in RE2, 3, 4, CV, 0, RV1, 5, 6, 7.

The samurai Edge is in
Resident Evil 1 remake
Resident Evil Revelations 2

I don't know why you think RE series calls every starts handgun "samurai Edge?
