i'm told that's just how the draught of midas works; the original ingredients are immaterial as far as actually spreading it is concerned, as anything it touches turns to gold
to my understanding, the ingredients are only needed to make more of it after the fact, not to just spread around what's already been made
Or could be a bug, really.
you'll never have any luck actively trying to make anything with alchemy, it just kind of happens every now and again and it's entirely at the whim of RNG
