Bug? Snow turning into gold dust!
I've never seen this before, but in the first snow biome, I landed on a normal floating piece of terrain, but where I landed, it turned to gold dust, which I immediately picked up, and then that would trigger the next row to turn into gold. It was almost like I was melting ice and instead of turning into water, it was turning into gold powder, but it was only doing it from contact with me, not from weapons. I didn't have any relevant perks, either-- I had electrical immunity, and edit everywhere (started with/mod).

I wound up with 6800 gold when I died. I tried to save a replay, but not sure if/how that works!

it's not a bug, you just got an incredibly lucky roll for the ingredients for an alchemical concoction

yeah got that too, but was melting everything (not only snow) under my feet

i'm told that's just how the draught of midas works; the original ingredients are immaterial as far as actually spreading it is concerned, as anything it touches turns to gold

to my understanding, the ingredients are only needed to make more of it after the fact, not to just spread around what's already been made

Yep, Alchemical Precursor is a potion you can make with 3 ingredients that are randomly determined based on your seed. Then you can add any piece of meat to that to create Draught of Midas. The ingredients are often incredibly difficult or even impossible to combine (either the ingredients span multiple biomes or they include items not in the game) so you almost never see it occurring naturally.

I've had no luck, alchemically, making anything close to that. This just seemed to be happening to a(?) specific material in the snow biome.

that's why i said you got an incredibly lucky roll that used very commonplace materials, one of them being snow

you'll never have any luck actively trying to make anything with alchemy, it just kind of happens every now and again and it's entirely at the whim of RNG
