Please be careful about where you download cheat engine from, I have no idea if theres a safe copy out there but quite a few CE installs are tainted by malware and viruses, if you have downloaded CE please run virus scans on your pc (Malwarebytes is one of the better ones out there) You will probably find something called Segurazo on your PC posing as an antivirus, but its quite the opposite. TLDR, Be careful about what you download and run regular virus scans on your pc.

Why don't people just download it from the main cheat engine site?

Why do you look for some third party site with the most shadiest look to download the program from?

I don't get why it has to be cheat engine of all things to 'mod' the game and explore what it has though... CE is really old and usually full of malware because well...
THEY know a bunch of kids in games wants to find a way to cheat, and this provides it... AT A COST. So they plant viruses in them in most sources.

If Cheat Engine was open source and you compiled it yourself, you can reduce the risk, but I think it's closed source where the 'owner' is making huge profits from everyone's misery...

Cheat Engine is not usually useful for online games. It's a memory hacking tool which means it's basically limited to locking variables in memory like health or ammo. Any competent online game will keep those variables server-side specifically so that people can't use a memory hacking tool on them (aside from P2P where one player acts as a server which is why P2P online games are usually total garbage on PC). Things like aimbots and wall hacks modify mouse input or draw overlays on the screen. They have nothing to do with memory hacking.

As others have said, download from the official site. I've never had a problem with CE but then I don't download anything from shady sites.

They read coordinate data from memory, they don't alter that data. CE is for altering memory values. It doesn't help with cheating in online games unless it's a very poorly coded game.
