When should I recruit new crewmates?
I've completed the game, and recruited 2 characters; one early on and one later. I noticed that the second one I recruited had nearly half their mastery tree filled out, which saves a ton of MSP.

I was wondering if I should continue to hold off recruiting, or are they basically as good as they'll get regardless of when I recruit at this point?

Do it as soon as it makes you feel happy and good to do so.

Or, if min/maxing makes you feel best, wait till your main crew are level 100 before recruiting additional crewmates.

From what I know once you finish the epilogue you can recruit the characters up to LV60 and they'll come with most of their mastery tree filled up, so it's whether you want to recruit characters sooner than later but have to deal with farming more mastery points for their trees or wait until you've finished the epilogue of the story and recruit characters from there?

Is it up to 60 only? I assumed it would be 100.

I've heard it's LV60 at max but I could possibly be wrong?

Looking at what's available, it seems like recruiting at my current level (my best being level 70 and ~4800 power) will recruit characters at level 45 with a level 50 weapon. I guess I'll keep pushing with what I have for now and see if those values change as I continue to level up.

Interesting, yea let me know. I gotta do more testing with that myself when I can.
The levels are based on story quest unlock rank and not character level. The last one comes for unlocking maniac. That said, it's really not a big deal at all to farm up the MSP. Once you hit level 100 each additional level gives 100 MSP. Do the slime level with xp boosters and rake in like 1300 ish MSP in 3 ish minutes. If you get lucky and get a prismatic that gives IIRC 12k msp.

Good to know. Thanks for the info!

yeah character mastery and exp is really the least of the players concern as far as grind goes, and sliming to max is hilariously nostalgic. The real grind starts with the forti crystals.

60 is indeed max.
Relevant but I don't know if this is a glitch or intentional or not but I found a faster way to get MSP. I have two side quests in folca that reappear after completion as long as I load the zone (by coming back from a quest or reloading a save). They each give 758 MSP and only take 5 of 2 of the lowest tier of elemental shard. If you stock up on one persons you can just turn in the side quest, save, quit to menu, load the save, repeat for like 2k+ MSP per minute.

I feel like these weren't here before proud difficulty. They also give a lot of money and some xp to the whole party.

Their recruitment level scales on your progress of the story. Once you finish the main story and get to chapter 0 they will be recruited at 45 but the farther you go in it scales.

unlock only who you want to play

there are 2 major spikes in unlocks
1 is finishing all of the main story and unlocking hard questboard stuff (level 45)
the other is finishing chapter 0 (level 60)

the main reason to wait is that unlocking charafcters late gives them A LOT more masteries baseline. And the mastery grind is pretty real.

On my way to mania i was barely able to max out offensive masteries on 1 character while screwing around with a couple of other chars along the way. Didnt do any grinding tho, only central stuff to unlock more stuff.

For perspective: A single lategame mastery node costs somewhere between 100 and 300 mastery.

The mastery grind is not real. It's very easy to quickly gain thousands of MSP later in the game.

Unlock the characters you know you want to play, and wait until the end of the game to unlock the rest: Terminus Weapon farm is terrible if you've unlocked every character.
