Transfer save file from Epic to Steam
Hello,

As per title, I got the game on Epic Store when it came out (loved it), and I'm wondering if can transfer the save file from there to the Steam version.

Pretty much by copy/paste the save file through Windows from one save location to another.

Has any one done it?

Also, in case that someone has, can you confirm if Achievements pop in the Steam version if you meet the requirements on your save file?

I'm not sure where Control save files are placed, but they might be in "Documents\My Games\$\

Achievements pops up when they're achieved, not if they've been achieved previously.

Steam save: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\791599744\870780

Epic save: C:\Users\(YourPCname)\AppData\Local\Remedy\Control\Default-Epic-User

note: In order to transfer the save from Epic to Steam, you have to rename your epic save files to look like your steam save files.

Also, when I transfered, I only got two steam achievements when I loaded it up.

I tried the renaming method and even though I was able to load my progress, all chests were reset. All collectables (such as documents and some key items) were in my inventory, but also in their original places all over again... NPCs dialogs reset as well...

I stopped playing mid DLC 1 on Epic version, and I am now soft locked on Steam in one of the side quests... The door to the Warehouse basement is locked again, and the ID cards are gone (even though they were all collected before). When I tried talking to Pope, she was like it was the first time we were having that conversation... Completely out of sync.

hm, that sounds very problematic, pretty much game breaking

Yep... I won't even bother with this game until the devs fix this issue. I heard that Remedy posted on their Discord servers that they are working on the save files compatibility... So I guess I'll just wait.

I heard they are going to make a patch so we can transfer saves over easier.

If you've missed it - a patch is out, so now the game handles save files from Epic to Steam properly.
Haven't tried it though. I'm replaying it from start, so I can get the achievements.

just to be sure - did you guys buy the game twice or somehow linked the egs game to your steam accounts?

Just wanted to say that mine is still out of sync even though the patch is on. Tried to start again and now my progress is broken completely every time something loads things are as they were first time.

it is a bit janky but I got mine to work, took me multiple times though and make sure to get every save file in there.

Yep, got mine to work as well after the update. I renamed all saves again from EGS, and I was able to complete the previously broken side quest and continued with the story.

Glad to hear that they fixed it.
Any idea if achievements pop if the requirements are met at that save file, or a replay is a must for achievement hunting?

Achievements won't pop up automatically... You have to re-create the same events for the achievements to be completed again. For example, in order to trigger the achievements related to skill point spending, I had to reset my points and spend them all over again.
