Linux support?
So this looks genuinely good, will you be putting up a Linux version?

Would love to cover it on GOL: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/

I am curious if there's something in Unity you're using currently, that's preventing you doing a Linux build?

I'm not dumb enough to claim all games are a one-click export, but quite often it is. The most common issues are video codecs and middleware that doesn't support Linux.

The biggest factor is simply that we are doing Switch, Mac/WIndows, and PS4/XB1 are in the near future. We are hopefully investing in release infrastructure soon, which would automate all that, but it hasn't happened yet. Until then releases are manual and more steps == more pain. If Proton means one less step on every PC release (and we do a lot of these) that's pretty awesome for us.

Plus we see organic positive reports with Proton already, why mess with a good thing?

what would you say, if valve lowers the cut for games with native linux support?
would you do the extra work, or is proton still the eaiser way?

My first instinct is that a small change to make us compatible w/ Proton is the easiest option, if an issue came up that's Proton specific. All of our special sauce is inside the game - we don't use any weird OS features - so hopefully that won't be a common problem.
Thank you for the considered replies, kompressor. As I was reading your lengthy reply in post 16, in which you asked what "native Linux support" really means, and were using compatibility layers and Electron, WINE et al as examples, I was wondering if you might as well ask if a game running in Microsoft Windows in VirtualBox/VMWare/Xen/etc. in Linux could also be considered as "supporting Linux", but thankfully you didn't go that far.

Haha - yeah that one would be a bridge too far.

Interesting, depending on Engine library dependencies having a Linux version can help identify bugs and nip them in the bud before they reach other Linux-like Platforms -- Switch -- PS4, Android/whatever. I am not sure what the debugging process on Switch or PS4 is like but I imagine it'd be easier to debug on Linux those issues before they are issues.

I honestly don't expect any obligation, but I'm definitely adding this back to my Wishlist and I'm down to buy a copy to play day 1.

I absolutely love marble games and am happy to pay anyone who makes media I enjoy where I can simply click install and play.
+1 for linux support, even if it's just support for proton

The native version is now available in the MIU Ultra beta branch; be sure to force SteamLinuxRuntime if running on a Deck!

Great, bought a copy and am playing on SteamDeck Linux

You can also shoot an email over to GOL maybe throw in a test key and then more people could know it's available now.

So far the first few levels are pretty fun, thanks :)

OMG thanks a million - again! Rolled the thread from the start in desperation and Linux support wasn't appearing to come reality. Now this :steamhappy: wishlisted and will purchase, spreading word.
Looking very good.

The only ♥♥♥♥♥♥ (minor complaint, word gets censored for some weird reason) I have so far, probably not linux-specific, is that aa quality seems to be not as high as it could be (on rx6600).
