the singular of "dice" is "die"
But seriously, great game! I bought the itch.io version, good luck with development.

Historically, dice is the plural of die, but in modern standard English dice is both the singular and the plural

Dicey Dungeons takes place within an alternative universe where 'die' is not, and never has been, used as the singular form for these six-sided number generators.

Don't forget that in the universe of Dicey Dungeons, dice are living beings, so dice can die. It would have been confusing if a die could die. In order to avoid any confusion, "die" has never been used as the singular form of dice in that universe.

That's a solid argument.

Yeah, that satisfies the grammar Nazi in me. Well done!

Even more confusing for you, since to a Nazi "die" would also mean "the".

It grates on my nerves every time someone says "dice" for singular. I am not alone.

But I will still buy and play the ♥♥♥♥ out of this game. Looking forward to it! :D

Yeah, it's one of those things where, the language may be changing, but it bugs enough people that it's usually preferable to err on the side of tradition, just to head off complaints from the folks who think you don't know any better.

That said, however, it's a game, not an academic paper being published for peer review, so it's hardly the end of the world.

can we have it as an option or am I going to just learn to stop grinding my teeth every time I read "a dice"
screeg Apr 26, 2019 @ 4:17pm
The latter. Anyway, the devs' explanation works for me. :)

Proving the axiom "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups".

It's DIE not DICE.
I want to play this game but it's Just. Too. Painful. "If you weren't a walking dice"? "Get a new dice?" Ouch. No. Dice is plural.
