Diagonal aiming
Hi,

Been following this since the very first demo and it's been great to see how it's progressed and unlike others i've barely encountered any bugs, much less any game breaking ones - but...

the fact that you can't shoot diagonally down left/right is absolutely maddening. I know that other people might not be too bothered and i realise that there's a lack-of-buttons issue, plus possibly an issue with game balance if it's been designed this way - but surely there's some way around it? Getting hit because i'm *slightly* above an enemy and i can't aim down at it is doing my head in - even Super Metroid had this ability.

Thoughts:

- Double tap and hold LB then fire to look and shoot diagonally down
- Swap dash and fire so you hold LB and shoot diagonally with the right analogue and RT, so either 1) free aim (sort-of like Shadow Complex) or 2) digital look up/down at 45 degrees (Super Metroid). I realise 1) is probably a no-go however.

Apart from this though, it's a ace little game and i'm really enjoying it. The upgrades, music and animations are particular highlights!

Cheers!

nice, i wish they let us use diagonal to shoot down left/right, some enemies we can't just shoot cuz we can't use the diagonal to aim down left/right

Been playing a few Super Metroid hacks recently, plus a SNES Alien 3 one, and decent diagonal aiming in these sorts of games is a must for me tbh

Unfortunately we do not have an animator working on the project anymore, so adding new animations is not possible, meaning that the down diagonal shooting is not quite possible to add right now at least. It was originally left out as a balance choice, but we see how it could be a good addition.

Figured I'd reply to your comment vs start my own thread, even though this is a little bit of a stale convo!

I was playing this game at a friends place and we were both confused as to why we couldn't shoot left or right in a straight line - it seems to default to shooting upwards on a diagonal.. I understand I can crouch and shoot straight, but it seems super counterintuitive to only shoot up to the left or right..

We thought his controller wasn't working but when we tested the keyboard it was the same.. Is this a balance decision to stop players being able to jump and shoot enemies in front of them with any ease?

Hi and sorry for a very late reply, missed this earlier!

That's not how the game should work and it's the first time someone has reported a bizarre issue like this. Shooting straight should be happening simply by pressing the shoot button.

Have you checked the controls from the options? Perhaps the diagonal button is somehow binded to the same button as shooting? You could also just try pressing the "reset default" from there, to see if it fixes anything.

Thanks I'll try that!
I had the same diagonal up shooting when moving issue. I thought it was intentional as I am using default controls and it actually makes fighting some encounters easier since for some reason, I can't bind the shift key (which would be ideal for my setup).

It did fix itself after I switched weapons.

I have Problems too with diagonaly Aiming. The Problem is the Character moves whyle i use the L-Stick to aim so i often run in enemys and get hit. But you must move whyle aiming.

So R-Stick for aiming would be better so that i can move left and aim right and can aim and shot without moving. Or maybe a button that allow to stay whyle aim with L-Stick.

Best would be allowing to use mouse and keyboard so i can walk and aim as is wish.

Hi! There is a diagonal shooting button that you can hold, to shoot diagonally without moving. That was explained in the tutorial at the beginning, but you can also see the key in the options menu.

Yes, i know but thats DIagonal shooting is in a bad angle. Most of the time its useless for the reason the enemys move and i must move.

But if hold that button means i stay in place and can aim with L Stick that is a help, not perfect as aiming with R Stick but a help.

EDIT:

Ok, test it but its not helpfull most of the time. Its only a help if:

1.) The enemy is rng like in the shotline
2.) i stay and let the enemy come in the shotline

In Bossfights (i have 3 atm) the diagonal shot show its weakness even more.
Can you maybe add mouse and keyboard controls? Or let me optionally choose the RStick for aming? The R-Stick can used for both look around and shot.

My Tip is that add a Option that allows me to switch between both Options.

I dont know Press the R Trigger to switch to R Stick for aiming and again to Switch back to look around with R Stick.
