Did you shoot him through the fire ring? Took me a few tries to aim correctly, but it unlocked without a problem once I managed to get him through the ring.

I've shot all three versions of him through the ring. I've shot him above the ring, below the ring, to the side of the ring, through the ring. Through the ring with me. Through the ring making sure he lands on the cushions on the other side. All of his versions simultaneously. All of his versions simultaneously with every person I could get my hands on and a bunch of random trash. I've spent over two hours shooting every conceivable combination of Nick Famzis through every conceivable permutation of targets. I've watched multiple youtube videos and replicated their actions exactly multiple times. I've tried restarting the game and doing all of the above again

It doesn't work.

yeah I think this was broken by yesterday's patch, it would explain the amount of people claiming it worked for them, since it's only been broken for one day.

Unlikely, since I just unlocked it about 4 hours ago with the latest version. But depending on how instincts are implemented, not an impossible theory either.

Quick update: Launched the game today, only to find out that I had to do it again because it didn't save or something, probably also because of the underlying bug. As it turns out, now it doesn't work for me either

This instinct is currently broken and on some other forum somewhere else, the developer has stated they are aware that it is broken.

I have completed all but two instincts in this whole game.
Nick into a daredevil
and
Grow grass hair 25 Meters.
Which requires the game to run for two hours without cutting the hair, without opening the change head gear inventory slot, and without closing the game or being kicked out and back to the titles screen. Any of which resets the entire growth of the grass.

I am patient and could just wait the two hours, but I commonly keep getting kicked back to the title screen for no reason given.
