EVE Online
Beware the Scammers,
Well Eve is famous for it Scams, i dont know how Steam with their politics can offer Eve Online as an Game via Steam, but there are some Scams new players should really look about.

First in Eve scamming aka steal your money via tricking you is totally allowed. This means when somebody use your naivity or trusthworthy behaviour, lie to you, and use tricks and you fall for it even when this scams include Real Life Contact via mumble/Ts this is for CCP allowed.

In Clear words, dont trust anybody in this game, even when hes your friend :) You can check via InternetSearchTools all about different scam types and categories in this game. So you need to be very aware what you do, which contract you accept, and if you can trust even the corp you joined or the corp member who joined you. This game is all around this Metagame beside what the game itself offers.

So Isk Doublers = will maybe pay your first money but they just wait until you give them more.
Contracts = check every contract before accepting it 1-3 times especially those triple posts ones, also some contracts seems legit, just copy paste the items on this page + markehub but just take jita to see if the contract is a real deal http://evepraisal.com/.

Corporations, always keep in mind people will try to steal from you so be aware that sharing informations of account or password is illegal even under CCP rules, the rest isnt.

I dont think steam can or will help you if you fall for a scam.

Also think about this, in Eve its also common to try to friend someone over weeks or month, even via skype, teamspeak, icq and now since Steam has it the steam friendlist and Private Message tool. Someday maybe he will robb you, or he wont and he is a good friend. But you can use internet search tools and you will see this game is not for got hearted people, and you find a lot cases of scams i listed above or thefts on "former" friends.
Indeed. Eve is no kiddie playground. And it's meant to be that way. Eve does not want you to be safe anywhere in any way. Welcome to a cruel reality.

There have been a lot of instances where highly trusted individuals have, as you said, spend large masses of time gaining that trust, then turning around and dropping it all for their own self gain. There have been megacoorps who's alliance leader has turned around, stolen titans, yards of super capitals, and hundreds of billions of isk right out from the entire alliance, and then disappeared. How was this handled? A headline story in the eve news.

Your only defense is yourself and your awareness that this is a norm and a reality.
still the best video to explain why eve is great BECAUSE the freedom of being able to scam and everything else ;)

Just to point out, the one man you can trust (and he has gotten a REPUTATION as the MOST trustworthy man in EVE for mediating trades and negotiations of goods) is Chribba.
There are no scammers in eve just nice ppl what is this scamming you are talking about ?
OP is right, trust none. Do that and you´ll be alright.

and again i say it, EVERYONE can trust Chribba
You really should mention margin trading scam, I would say that most people who get scammed fall for one of these.

Indeed Chribba, the only man you can trust.
The louder people say a person can be trusted the more wary you should be.

obviously you know nothing about Chribba. a little bit of investigation into eve will prove what has been said about him.
apart from that, as a semi-retired eve player (started playing in 2008 iirc) i would say that the only other people i would trust in eve are those players i know personaly, so if they backstab me i can punch them in the face :)
you can´t trust never any person in EVE why? EVE is EVIL^^ for the :minmatar: hehe XDDD and fly safe
lol, watch Chribs (Chribba) turns out to be the Ultra-scammer in the history of EVE.

But, seriously, Chribs is awesome.

Also, Jita is the Tavern on Tatooine....wretched people every where!
E...Everyone
V...Versus
E...Everyone

If you use an ISK doubler you deserve to be scammed, If you see a plex contract for 400 million read the contract or your gonna loose your money.Margin scam victims should learn about the markets before falling victim to it. It's all there in front of you, Read it very carefully.
Ah thats why I love EVE. You can do anyting you want!
Other ways people might scam you:
1) "I'll help you move your stuff". There is a safe way to have a stranger move your stuff with a properly set courrier contract, where you get the collateral money back if he steals your stuff. In all other instances you TRUST the person to give you back your things.

2) Joining corps. Corpmates are constantly flagged for eachother. Your corpmates can kill your ship in highsec and Concord won't interfear. It's rare but not unheard of for a person to join a corp and get killed, though usually that involves a particulardly expencive ship so new players are pretty safe from that. That also applies if you started a corp and invite someone in.

3) If you're gonna use contracts learn to read them. Next time you're in a market hub and see people spamming local with contracts click on them taking care NOT to ACCEPT them. 99% of those contracts are scams.
-One will have the money in the "you will pay" field rather than "you will get", so you pay money AND the item.
-Another will have the item listed in the cost, so you'll have a contract where you buy a PLEX for 300mil AND a PLEX.
-Another will claim to be a Navy Issue Raven for 400 mil, but it will contain the much cheaper normal raven, but NAMED "Navy Issue Raven". Show info on the item will reveal the scam.

Make a point to recognise how people scam with contracts, so you know what to look for.

The thing is, at some point you'll HAVE to trust someone, the game is desinged to require it. You can't be without a corp, you will eventually ask someone to move your stuff, and nullsec and wormhole play is impossible without putting your stuff on POS storage arrays where everyone has access. Use your head, and just don't put all your eggs in one basket.
