Databank is a mess
As I didn't participate in the early access for this one (I did for Subnautica) I don't really know, so can anyone tell me if most of the databank entries were only added very recently? Or have they always been this messed up and nobody bothered to report it? Or have tons of people reported it and the developer has just ignored it?

The Flora section seems to be the worst by far. There are a few entries in Exploitable that don't seem to be (exploitable, that is), and conversely there are tons of plants that ARE exploitable that are not under that section. The Flora->Sea category even contains the Hydrothermal Vent, which should have been under Geological Data.

I've reported quite a lot of these as I encountered them in-game, but they just keep coming, so I thought I'd make a thread instead.

Am I the only one, or has anyone else noticed this? It seems like the kind of obvious mistakes that would be sure to be weeded out during early access, but that appears not to have been the case.

Below Zero was clearly a rush job. The Subnautica part (the underwater part) was great, a slightly lesser copy of the first game. The snow part however is just...bad. It's an uninspired and bland biome made into a maze just to make it seem a bit more interesting. The Snowfox handles like a nightmare, I'm more agile, attacked less, and not that much slower on foot. Clearly not much thought has gone into that part of the game. Same with enemies and especially Leviathans, they are weak and not scary at all. Oh, and that horrible ending...

In other words: the things they could copy from Subnautica are great. The things they added are just rushed and feel taped on. So no surprise the databank is a mess!

Databank entries have been lagging behind throughout EA and many have only been added recently.
I have to admit that I hardly payed any attention to them during EA. I guess it's partly because most of them simply weren't there early on and partly because I already knew about the usefulness (or lack thereof) of everything once they were. Also, you'd have to actively search for any changes since those were not readily apparent when playing the game in EA.

And the moral of the story is: Don't let any elements lag behind in EA if you want to get useful feedback on them.

No, that's the problem with early access (I seriously dislike the abbreviation in these discussions since it so often leads to confusion). In the beginning, everyone just accepts stuff that is off because it's still very early in development. Then, towards the end of development, the entire player base is so used to stuff being off that they consider it normal and don't even think to report it.

And as you say, this is probably particularly a problem for the databank entries, because "old hands" don't even read them anymore, since they already know what's in them.

To a newcomer like myself, it just looks very amateurish to have so many entries so blatantly wrongly categorized.

The game was in early access for 2.5 years What rush are you talking about?

They have always been messed up - even in the original game. I for one complained about it repeatedly during early access for both games and it was never addressed.

As far as "tons" of people complaining? No. The threads I created on this topic got basically no supportive Replies so clearly it never became a priority for the devs to fix.

Here's my most recent post that got no Replies at all.

Well, there was really nothing to add.

I usually refrain from making "me too" posts. :}
