Sea monkeys bringing me stuff - where does it all come from?
I've been getting a lot of resources from Sea Monkeys that frequently visit my seabase now and try to give me resources. Mostly titanium and quartz but also copper. And they come up to me very frequently which means my inventory is quickly starting to overflow. Luckily I now have a trash bin.

I want to ask: are they picking these resources up from the terrain itself or are they spawning the resources in and then carrying them to me? I ask because I now have a whole bunch of quartz - way more than I need - and I am tempted to throw it all away. But if I do this, will there be enough quartz in the map for me when I need it or will I be depleting a lot of it from the map if I throw it away?

A similar concern I have is that if I refuse to take what the Sea Monkeys bring me, will they just drop it on the seafloor elsewhere and bog down my game's performance with all that litter? If they do and that is what happens, I know how to empty the cache files that store all that data. Thing is, that will also respawn every single resource in the game and I would rather not cheat.

So what should I do? Should I refuse to take what the Sea Monkeys give me or should I take it and then throw it away? Or should I be storing it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

A dozen quartz is nothing. You will need hundreds, better save them.

If you refuse the gift, the resource dropped doesn't exist in your save file. Unless you pick it up in your inventory. You can easily test it by saving / loading the game when they drop the ingredient.

An issue with this behavior is due to the scanner room, you'll see markers when they spawn the resource, but then the marker will point inexisting resources in the middle of the water.

Beware of just throwing stuff away, it can pile up and lower your fps if you get enough. Lockers are shown separetly so they don't do that. And there was a trash can you could use, but I have not seen that yet, this game start.

Just build an alien containment. That will use up half of it. :P

If I find I do not yet have the Alien Containment blueprint then I will need to get rid of atleast some of the quartz. But that is a good idea and I have been planning to get one of those set up, anyway. We will see how far I can get before I have to part with any of it.

I think I will do that, then. They've been giving me copper, too, which I do want. I will need to be more observant of what they're bringing me.

Yeah I figured that could happen. When I make a scanner room, I typically have it scan the outcrops rather than the ores themselves so I figure that keeps me from getting confused.

If you have no pinned blueprints they will simply bring you random things, if you pin some blueprints they will bring you components (non-crafted - except glass). So if you need diamond, pin a blueprint with diamonds on it and they'll bring you a diamond.

Since they're so hard to acquire now, I always have a coral shell or whatever pinned. You can pin a recipe for salted fish and they'll bring you salt and chase fish - they'll never bring you a fish...

I've seen the items randomly spawn in their hands while empty, and also despawn when rejected. Ignoring the items shouldn't mess with your performance. I am a little surprised that you feel you have to much quarts though as I always go through quarts by the hundreds. It's the most useful resource to me other than titanium so it seems so weird for someone to complain about having too much of the stuff.

. What is really cool though, and should make the items seem less useless to you is that if you pin a blueprint to your hud it will start giving you items related to the blueprint. It's super useful if you want to get a rare mineral like nickle, diamonds and rubies without having to go to the proper biome for it, and have even been handed already crafted items like glass and copper wire. Where is a sea monkey going to go to craft glass? And yet it does. I don't question their magical ability to spawn things in it's hands, merely appreciate it, and don't plan on getting rid of AL-AN any time soon because of it.

if you pin a recipe they will bring you stuff to make the pinned recipe. I've gotten loads of lead and nickle this way

No need to hide something as a spoiler that you are just repeating from a post above.:steammocking:

Yeah I've heard about pinning certain recipes to make the Sea Monkeys bring you other more exotic resources like nickel and diamonds. I've considered using that technique the next time I try to make some of the more advanced tools and upgrades.so that I don't need to look for them myself. I currently know where to find diamonds so I don't think I will need to pin any recipes with diamonds in them but I want to try this with nickel and maybe uranium as well.

Side note, hatch the eggs and put them in different biomes. Each biome has a set of resources you can acquire, they pick from the available list (loot table) and spawn it in their hands when you get near them. So if you want something from a deeper biome, set up a small habitat and release a seamonkey there and pin a recipe or just wait for them to bring you what you want from that biome, and don't forget your quantum locker so you don't have to bring back an inventory full of them.

Good idea. Now I know what to use all my glass for :steamhappy:

They always look disapointed if you dont do swapsies and give them something in return

At least they don't do what real monkeys do and fling nasty "pies" at you. That would be kind of hard to do underwater, of course. No forward momentum after the flinging. Double disappointment after that. Poor sea monkeys.

Are you sure you need to do that? From what I can tell there doesn't appear to be a biome requirement at all.

At least if you pin a recipe they will give you the resources needed (within their general limits)

EDIT: Just got 3 nickel from the monkeys 200m from the starter base.

(not to mention that it seems like a lot more time and effort than just retrieving that stuff yourself)
