Sea monkeys bringing me stuff - where does it all come from?
I've been getting a lot of resources from Sea Monkeys that frequently visit my seabase now and try to give me resources. Mostly titanium and quartz but also copper. And they come up to me very frequently which means my inventory is quickly starting to overflow. Luckily I now have a trash bin.

I want to ask: are they picking these resources up from the terrain itself or are they spawning the resources in and then carrying them to me? I ask because I now have a whole bunch of quartz - way more than I need - and I am tempted to throw it all away. But if I do this, will there be enough quartz in the map for me when I need it or will I be depleting a lot of it from the map if I throw it away?

A similar concern I have is that if I refuse to take what the Sea Monkeys bring me, will they just drop it on the seafloor elsewhere and bog down my game's performance with all that litter? If they do and that is what happens, I know how to empty the cache files that store all that data. Thing is, that will also respawn every single resource in the game and I would rather not cheat.

So what should I do? Should I refuse to take what the Sea Monkeys give me or should I take it and then throw it away? Or should I be storing it? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

they're stealing it from your base lockers.

No, from other players.

Nah, if that was the case other people would be getting my vital technology.

seriously, love the little things now, but I could have stabbed them all at the games beginning.

Seamonkeys respawn.

get AL-AN out of your head (build the precursor-body) and sea-monkeys are doing the same as before - stealing your stuff :-)

i recognized this behavior after i looked to precursor-facility down at twisty-bridges and take AL-AN with me.

be sure - there are more ressources on the map you will ever need...

I've watched them - it just spawns in their hands, they don't pick it up.

Be advised the More Ingots mod on Nexus will allow you to craft and uncraft Quartz ingots to conserve storage space.

Without that tho, just turn a lot of it (but not all) into glass - you're going to need plenty when you start expanding your base.

It seems, then, that I can throw all of my extra quartz away and it won't diminish what is available on the map? I can make some of my quartz into glass because I am sure I will need some glass soon, but I have almost a dozen quartz now so I will need to throw some of them away if I don't plan on creating more lockers for storage. And I don't - I only like collecting and keeping resources I know I will need in the very near future.

I pulled a sea monkey out after hatching it and it instantly had quartz in its hand w/o going anywhere, so I'm pretty sure the resources are just spawning in their hands.

Oh cool. OK then. That changes things. Thanks for telling me.

Keep in mind stuff does not despawn if you drop it on the ground. You can make a little pile of quartz somewhere and it will be there forever (just make sure it doesn't all roll away).

I'm waiting for the day when a sea monkey pulls out another sea monkey, which pulls out another sea monkey, turtles all the way down and so on.

Pain meds messing with my head.

If they're somehow "connected" to the planet, maybe they have the ability to recall things from elsewhere, a la conjuration spells in other games. Sucks for the person who loses that fancy hat you end up with, but eh.

My primary concern with that is it might bog down my PC's performance by adding to the litter the cache files are keeping track of. We had that issue with the first Subnautica game if I recall correctly and I would rather not have that happen here, if I can help it.

That, plus I would need to remember where it all is later.

if that happens you could just clear the cache just like the first game and everything you dropped goes away.

That would respawn every resource on the map, too, and I kinda don't want to cheat.

Just build an alien containment. That will use up half of it. :P
