New Seatruck Docking Station added to Experimental
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828394583

An update today added the much anticipated Seatruck docking station, which replaces the Moonpool as a way to dock the Seatruck. Now, I'm assuming these colors are just placeholders until the final textures are finished, but so far this looks like a great addition.

To use it, you just drive the Seatruck into the docking tube. The docking clamps will then remove the main Seatruck cabin from all the other cabs. Inside, there is a dedicated vehicle upgrade console similar to the one you can build in the Moonpool. This lacks a fabricator but has a couple of screens to see the changes you're making (as a cool detail, the CCTV cameras are actually visible inside the docking tube).

So far this looks great, but it's obviously a work in progress. Some current issues that jumped out below.

Current Bugs and Issues
1. It's fairly easy to get stuck when entering the docking tube, especially with many attached cabins. In this image, I was caught on something in the tube, which tilted the Seatruck. I had to back up and wiggle around to get into place for the automated clamps to start working.

2. This door that separates the dock from cabins can just be walked through. I'm not sure what the final intent is for this, but it should allow access to those cabins in some form.

3. When exiting the Seatruck cabins from a docking module, which has a ceiling exit, you will clip through the docking tube.

Played around quite a bit more and found a bunch of bugs and issues.

1. Some collision issues. You can build through the floor both from the inside and outside of the docking tube.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828572562

2. The wall placement for the wall with the vehicle console needs some work. The wall locker below both clips through the floor and covers the console. The battery chargers cover the console.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828572460

3. If you remove a docked cab and resist the automatic ejection, it will get stuck. If you then attempt to take out the Seatruck while the tube is blocked, it will get permanently jammed. I had no way to move the Seatruck after this.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828573295

4. A misaligned Seatruck will clip through the tube. This will also happen if it hits anything inside the tube.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828573512

5. You can pass through this window from outside
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828573114

6. You can build over the antenna and even partially through the ceiling.

7. Air pumps don't know where to properly attach. There are two in this image. One is sideways, and other is just floating away from the base.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828572887

8. Dropped objects will clip through the bottom of the tube
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828577037

9. Not sure if this is a bug, but you can build directly in front of tube exit.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828573622

10. There is a graphical error when the base is flooded. Also, in the same image, the docking clamp is coming through the ceiling
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2828574739

11. Finally, when you enter the docking tube without a docked truck just as an entrance, you drop down a decent amount as soon as you enter. Doesn't seem to matter where you interact with the bulkhead door from the outside, you will always fall.

12. So the autodocking mechanism has some issues if you have a sufficiently long Seatruck. Since you can enter at a slight angle, the adjustment process during docking will potentially re-orient the parts at the end to clip through objects. Below, it oriented the Seatruck inside a structure. This can cause serious issues since the game won't let you delete that structure. I was eventually able to separate part of the cabins to create space, and the cabins that were connected to the I-tube didn't exactly respond well... It did eventually force the cabins out though, so this wasn't a permanent loss.

This same issue will happen with terrain. You can just clear the ground here at an angle, but the straightening action will push the truck through the ground. I'm sure someone will find a way to abuse this for a guaranteed out-of-bounds glitch.

13. I mentioned above that you could walk through the door leading into the separated modules, but you can also swim through the wall above the docked modules. Doing so puts you indoors with game still thinking you are underwater.

14. While I couldn't capture it in an image, I would occasionally experience erratic screen bouncing when standing at the entrance of a docked primary Seatruck cabin

15. Not sure if this is intended or not, but if you lose power while a Seatruck is docked, you have no way to use the vehicle.

On that topic, it seems that the docking recharges the primary cabin and repairs any damage. No damage is repaired to the other docked modules, but that may be intentional.

Agree it needs a lot of work to make it look and work as intended,
admiral1018 Jul 1, 2022 @ 8:11am
For sure, it's definitely a cool addition and much more useful/intuitive way to dock the Seatruck, but it's easy to intentionally glitch and even prone to other alignment issues.

As far as I know, the Seatruck has no limit on the number of modules you can add, but maybe creating a limit (something like 10) might be a good idea. Otherwise I have no idea how you can prevent this from causing issues when some player eventually tries docking a truck with 50 cabins or something like I see in YT videos.

This is awesome and i cant wait till the bugs are fixxed. But at same time could we get the sea truck a Level guage or auto level when not driving it.

When it's docked? I can't reproduce this.

There is a related ticket for this already.

I need videos for these two. "If you then attempt to take out the Seatruck while the tube is blocked, it will get permanently jammed." If 3) is related to the fact you can build on the floor / directly at the entrance then it will be fixed by removing those possibilities.

Other issues are not a bug / collision problems, related to it being a placeholder and not the final model.

Issues related to having a long Seatruck won't be fixed. Players can break the game if they really want to. Having a massive Seatruck always will create issues with the terrain / what you place on its trajectory.

Thanks for the feedbacks.

I'll see if I can get a video or better info on some of those.

One other issue that happened organically. I docked a Seatruck and wanted to manually attach a module at the end that I had left behind. The module was apparently heavily damaged, and the collision inside the tube while attempting to join them destroyed the module, leaving large pieces of unmovable debris.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2829399146

This jammed the Seatruck during the ejection attempt, and I couldn't really find anyway to physically remove the debris (didn't try prop gun, although not sure if that works on Seatruck module wreckage).

From all the possible ways to dock the truck to a base, why in Satan's name did they choose this one ?

Edit : am I the only one finding it's a perfect exemple of overcomplicating things ? A special door whould have been enough...

Those are just temporary textures. It will look like the rest of the base pieces when it's finished.

remember when people said the devs don't listen?

they clearly do, they didn't need to do this but they did out of what the community wanted
So does that mean that there will be an update in the future? That would be awesome.

I'd say that's a fairly safe bet. There would be no point in making frequent updates to the experimental branch unless they intend to release them at some date. Unfortunately we don't know when that will be.

Just wanted to say that I love the new docking station and I can't wait for it to be fully textured and finished! It's great as a brand new player to see the devs still putting love and effort into this game. Also LOVE all the Natural Selection easter eggs!

I actually have to retract this statement completely. Whatever the newest update did, it shifted the postion of the Docking Module upwards and my Seatruck is now stuck inside it so I can't deconstruct it at all. It was literally a matter of hours between putting finishing decorations on my base to it being rendered completely broken. I'm not even sure I want to continue playing at this point.
