why do you need spy penguins to harvest snow stalker fur from their corpse ?
it's pretty dumb when you think about it. if you want to not incite violence against snow stalker, then atleast make the fur unharvestable when they're dead or something. kind of dumb to having to use spy penguins then switch to riley when riley is standing next to the corpse. she can literally tear the fur with her bare hands.

the fur can be harvested from living Stalkers just as well, no need to kill any. Also there are fur patches scattered in their caves. You'll know when you're in such a cave as there are skeletons of their prey, and Stalkers will want to "play"

im perfectly aware of that. i just thought it's stupid that you still need spy penguins when the corpse are laying perfectly still in front of you

be reassured you're not the only one to think that way and that it has been reported many time during early access, still devs don't seem to care about it even if it's plain stupid that you can't harvest fur from a dead stalker with your knife.

below zero is likely carrying over the design decision of not needing to kill everything to get by in the game. the only benefit of killing anything(besides obvious food sources) in the first game was to get rid of a threat but they didn't exactly make it an easy process in most cases.

oh, and by easy process i mean they didn't hand us weaponry that took everything out with very little effort. sure you could knife something to death or use crashfish/acid shrooms and a cannon but besides investing a lot of time or creativity it wasn't something the game was designed for you needing to do.

Spy penglings and the snow fox are both bad tools that were shoe-horned into the story because "hey, look at these new useless things we made please use them!"

I didn't even know that spy penglings could take fur off the stalkers. Is that explicitly stated in game somewhere? I personally knifed a snow stalker to death trying to get fur for the cold weather suit only to realize that didn't produce the fur. I ended up finding a bunch lying around in one of the den areas, assumed that was the intended method of acquisition, and promptly never thought about it again.

You don't even need to harvest any fur at all. There is enough just lying around to pick up.

Do you mean Robin? Anyway, all of of the snow stalker caves have bits of fur laying around. Use the prawn suit to get close, jump out, collect the fur, and no violence required.

Seeing as you only need like 4 pieces of fur total to build everything that can be build with it, it takes about 5 minutes to do if you find a big enough cave.

I didn't even realize that the penguin could be used to collect fur until well after I stopped having any use for it.

if you scan one it tells you they're afraid of bright light, just pull out a flare and they run away
Why bother building a snow suit when its 100% easier to use a Prawn suit on land anyway?

Aside of that the spicy fruit salad gives +100 warmth. Cold shouldn't be such a problem at all.

But yeah, I like to use the Prawn as I catapult myself out of the canyons and just walk on top of the map to not having to deal with any creatures or the confusion of these ice mazes. ^^

About the topic...
I just have this one assumption:

It's a "balancing" thing.
You are not supposed to get the snow suit that early, so there is some sort of restricton.

Even though it still doesn't make sense as you simply can collect it from the Stalker caves.
And like Meewec said, you can completely avoid any confrontation with the snow Stalkers by using a flare to scare them away.

So after all, this concept isn't very well thought out. :/

If you're spoiler free, there is no way for you to know that. After searching phi robotics you come out with the snow suit and the snow fox and all you know about them is that they seem thematically appropriate. So you build them and use them, only to be terribly disappointed in the wasted effort.

All that makes us believe that BZ = Subnautica mechanics + a few quality of life upgrades + a bunch of useless stuff and badly designed challenges

Which makes us think that if they start a new IP today, it will probably be a flop.

Snow Fox is terribly disappointing, I was expecting it to be my go to land vehicle, not something I would carry on my back, the control is so clunky, it's somehow easier to maneuver land with a prawn suit, and I just made the cold suit after I get the antidote, is there any reason why I would go to the phi robotics area ever again?

The game does in fact tell you that you can harvest fur from the Snow Stalkers with the Spy Penglin. Maybe in the description once you scan it, I know I saw it.

Do tell where it was said, for I totally missed it.
In Original, the tooth hunting was equally illogical, but at least there was one PDA to tell you about it. In BZ, I failed to spot any moment when game warned you that only pengling is only way to get fur.
