Instead please learn and remember which screens must be closed with Tab and which screens must be closed with ESC - because standardizing the keypresses was too difficult.

I have been hoping and waiting for this feature since Below Zero's release. I tried to play around it, but it's just too immersion breaking and it's not fun for me to have to constantly come back to reality and think about how I have to hit a TAB key when muscle memory already knows to use the ESC to exit out of practically every single menu in the entire gaming world except for this one.
This is sooo brain dead, because you have specific different ways in this game to escape a menu and especially in stressfull situations hit the wrong button making it worse with having 2 menus overlapping.
I guess the reason they will never fix it is because they made it so that you can open the ESC menu with the support function while other menus are open and so are able to make screenshots and what not of issues within menus while getting support/creating the support ticket. They designed/programmed themselves with that into a corner and would have to redesign this approach which is probably too much effort at this point.
Or in short, dumb.
