glacial basin needs a better map e.g. compass bearing, better landmarks
the glacial basin seems way too confusing to navigate and i've often found myself running in circles. I once spent an entire in game week just trapped in there because of worms, weather, and just confusing map.
I tried using the pathfinding tool but that's pretty useless since it only has the length of a few metres, and the markers are pretty iffy since they just bounce all over the place.
At the very least include a compass marking on the map. The only thing I can really use to roughly discern positions is the darn bridge

I realy havent tried to find my way around it. There is a „low effort“ map on the web that shows the basic layout. I found most things i needed with the help of it but yeah. A map wouldn‘t hurt too much ingame... You‘d think the researchers beeing there for months would‘ve made one at some point...

The area design is lacking. You should have a compass by the time you try this area though. I did the area a couple of times in EA and still spent 4 hours walking in circles last night until I found the antidote, the frozen guy and the alien stuff. Won't miss that area. Wanted to give it a fair post release play through. Just be sure to take several beacons in there with you. The area is as annoying as I remembered.

The area would be improved if the constant snowstorm was turned off. They went to some effort to make the area very pretty but you almost never get to actually see it. On the rare minute here and there that you can actually see beyond 4 meters you'll see that they did some impressive artwork. It would also reduce a lot of the frustration of finding your way around the area.

After participating in EA and giving BZ a full post-release play, I'll probably go back to Sn1 if I need to scratch that Subnautica itch again. There's some pretty things in BZ but also some pretty bad things (writing/dialogue) that I won't miss.

Beacons can be p;laced on lands.

The antidote isnt in the open and requires a pengling which is very easy to find with the map you get and a PDA message froom somewhere. It has also got all the landmarks you need.... loll

Beside the beacons, you can also use light sticks to mark the terrain.

what the heck are you talking about? you can easily plant them on land. there's even an example of it at phi robotics.
you just plant the spikes in

The basin is just terrible to navigate. Your best bet is cramming beacons into the various access points rather than trying to directly mark things. Do yourself an enormous favor: Prawn + Jumpjet upgrade + Grapple. Makes that whole segment a bit more tolerable.

The path finder tool doesn't have a distance limit of a few meters. It has a placement limit. So you can go long distances between markers. If you follow the arrows back. Especially at night. Since they glow. You can backtrack correctly.

As I stated in the post, I did find the antidote, the frozen guy and the alien stuff. So, obviously I did use the pengling. As for the map you find in the game, I've seen more informative diagrams done in a pre-school fingerpainting class.

You also seemed to miss the point about landmarks being hard to see in the constant whiteout. So, for those that don't want to use internet cheats and screwtube walkthroughs, this area design can be frustrating.

In my last play through the spires I just hugged the walls around the east side and followed it around to the alien area. Didn't even bother with the prawn or any of the resources there.

For the basin I took the shortcut through the underwater area rather than deal with the maze.

All these peeps who didn't want to play early access then come here with suggestions *after* the game is released. :steamfacepalm:

I said the same exact thing

You need to tilt your head 45 degrees when looking at that dumb map for it to make sense as up will than be north

i built some single tube & airlock 'mini bases' around the above ground areas to help with landmarks. also so i could control the robot without freezing to death.

I just wish I could zoom in. It's a PDA, shouldn't it be zoomable?
