But here's a tip how to do it much easier: ram them with seatruck. Install perimeter defence system for when they grab your seatruck and just get to ramming. If you zap them leviathans as soon as they grab you, it shouldn't take more than 60%-70% of seatruck's "health" so there's no need for in-fight repairs. This is the easiest, safest and probably the fastest way.
And is the reason you felt the need to come on here and get validation for "finally" doing it because the devs intentionally gave you no reward for killing it?
1. It's a challenge that players can experience within this game if they want to
2. The game is easier/more efficient afterwards since leviathans don't return
The game actually does reward you for killing leviathans since they don't respawn and are never annoyances again. The fact that so many people kill them is because the devs designed the game this way. If the intent was not to kill them, the devs did a poor job.
Because it's fun to play as a predator and not as a sheep. Lol.
Because they are annoying.
You are minding your own business just mining kyanite or whatever and suddenly this gigantic bastard comes and tries to murder you like you are a mackerel sandwich or something.
Rammng and zapping is faster than just ramming, but it takes a lot more energy. I don't think you can actually kill leviathan like that without Ion power cells. By just ramming, it should be doable with regular cells, I know set of Ions lets you kill all 4 with lots of power to spare.
That's just not consistent with the way this game was built. If the devs didn't want leviathans to be killed, they would be unkillable. That would have been an easy thing to implement. If medium to large fauna can't be killed, players won't spend time trying to do that. They will adjust and find ways to manage those threats instead.
But if the creatures can be killed, and there is a reward for doing so in terms of reduced annoyances in the future, then yes, the game was designed for and does encourage killing these creatures.
Once you shock the leviathans once, they usually start fleeing. Follow them with the SeaTruck, using the afterburner to keep the distance, and you can continue to do collision damage as you're tailing them. Continually charge and blast the perimeter defense so long as you're in range.
I cleared out the crystal caves of all 4 shadow leviathans in about 20 minutes, with each leviathan only taking about 3 minutes to kill. Shadow Leviathans will frequently get stuck in the crystals when they're fleeing as well, which allows you to continually damage them by driving into them and unleashing charged blasts. It took around 8 charged shots to kill each one.
This seems a lot quicker to me than using the Prawn. Once I had the hang of it, I really wasn't even taking damage. The leviathans would do ~30-40% damage to the SeaTruck before they died, and I was never in enough danger that I thought about getting out for repairs.
It is very rewarding to have the purple crystal cave as my private backyard.
Now i need to put warning signs in both entrances "Private property! Trespassers will be rammed, survivors will be stabbed".

Beautiful. <3
I'll try to get some bases there either, yet just without killing off the Shadows.
Wish me luck. XD
