I still want to stab the Moonpool
I'm frustrated. No, scratch that, I'm at my breaking point. I am so sick of how impossible it is to get the moon pool to fit where I want it.
I have several major criticisms.

First. It's impossible to rotate. The Moonpool is fixed In rotation, locked to the first base piece you place. If you get done building your base, and want to squeeze it into the perfect spot, but you didn't build the correct orientation, good effin luck trying mash the picky a-hole into place.

Second. It's hitbox is ENORMOUS. I have LITERALLY placed a double decker large room in places where the Moonpool refuses to fit. I am furious that it's hitbox is so much larger than its mesh.

Third. This is more me venting about the build system in general, but the fact that you can't just move your reticle closer or father away while building is incredibly unhelpful. Add to that that it's even POSSIBLE for the ghost to occupy the same space the player character occupies... Groan.

In all, I love subnautica with all my heart, but as someone who lives for base making, this cooks me hard. There are places I would LOBE to place a Moonpool where it VERY reasonably should fit, but it won't. Instead, I have to make due without one of the most important modules, because it's such a picky slut.

Osiris New Dawn.....actually has a superior exterior base building system.

That shouldn't be possible.

It speaks volumes.

Let that s i n k in.

Yeah, we really need a "move object closer, or further away from you" button.

Shoulda seen me fiddling for OVER FIVE MINUTES trying to place a Large Room, and the whole time I was wishing it was like the build system in No Man's Sky, where it lets you rotate buildings, move them closer or further away from you, etc.

Also, I hate how you can't tell which way the Moon Pool is facing.... my base in my latest playthrough? Every time I launch, my seatruck is facing a cliff wall. Woulda been nice if I could have rotated the Moon Pool so that I didn't have to spin 180 degrees before going anywhere.

Also, where *IS* the Vehicle Upgrade Console? Is that still a thing? Because it seems like you can build upgrades from the regular fabricator and I've not found any fragments of the Console yet, which means I can't customize my vehicles, nor can I see info displayed on the wall.

Another idea: How about making the Moonpool automatically repair vehicles? If the Cyclops could do it, why can't the Moonpool?

BZ-10 Bug 2 In Progress [18998] The mouse wheel doesn't rotate the moonpool when you build it. 2020-11-09 18:44:19

Moonpool is *always* the first thing I build unless I'm just making an oupost somewhere without one. plenty of my bases have been *just* a moonpool with lockers and fabricator on one wall, and pots to grow mellons and such on another. can even fit a growbed in a corner if you need to. with 2 or 4 solar panels on the roof.

I'll give them somewhat of a pass on the hitbox size. There's functionality associated with the Moonpool. You need enough space to bring in and eject docked vehicles, meaning there has to be ~10-15m below it open for that to work. When they changed it to auto-disconnect modules, they have to leave room for that as well around the edges to avoid collision. Some of that is necessary.

It should be rotatable though.

It's definitely still in the game. There are two places to get it:
1) in the Koppa Mines
2) by scanning the Moonpool in Marg's base.

They should probably move the Seatruck and Prawn modules back to it exclusively and move the Snowfox modules to the Hoverpad, now that the facilities are easy enough to get access to. They had switched it to the Fabricator as a convenience while the Moonpool was so freaking hard to get in EA11 and earlier. Now, it's not necessary and honestly just takes away from the handful of reasons to actually build and use these base facilities.
