Do Creatures Attack Base?
One of my main disappointments of the original was that we could build this great base, which could even flood when damaged, but the creatures never attacked. Never putting you into damage control mode to fix the flooding and get rid of the creature.
I was hoping that might change with BZ, did it?

No. It might even be more safe than Subnautica.

They tried that before Subnautica was originally released, but it was too much of a frustration after you built a big base, so they turned it off. I guess it was not practical to "tune" it...

Not sure if they fixed it, but the land worm (I forget what it's called) was able to attack you while you were in a base built on land, if it managed to follow you all the way back to it. It was before the Salad Update so it may no longer be possible, but I remember the fleeting feeling of safety evaporate when it went on a rampage and damaged me after I fled to it.

Were you able to build vertically up off the ground? Like build some Vertical Connectors and then build a 3rd or 4th story area?

During that particular patch, no-- that was during the time we had a height limit to (land) bases.

I haven't played since three patches after the Garden update (waiting for at least one more major patch before playing again) so I don't know if that was ever fixed.

Was this possible during the patch you played on? I started playing right after Frostbite.

Not sure. It was a while ago and I've since deleted that save. All I know is that I could not build another normal room on top of another no matter what build techniques I tried (it was two rooms tall, near the extending bridge).

That said, it looks like your base was built after the patch I played on. I remember that the base I built was before they added the snow tree grove just before the Frozen Leviathan (where it looks to be where you built yours, in that first screen cap).

I made a habit of deleting any save I had and starting from scratch after every new patch on the experimental server, so I've since gone through at least nine-ten new iterations of the game.

I was spooked by that one time I got attacked by the ice worm in my base, and haven't tried to build a base in the middle of those ice fields ever since. After the next major patch I may try again, but I want to leave enough time that the game is "fresh" to me on the next play through.

If you encounter the ice worm and find yourself safe in your base, let me know though! =D

Haven't been attacked in it yet. And I've even watched the Ice Worm in active hunting mode tunneling beneath my base back and forth with no attack. I even hopped down to trigger its attack, where it thrusts its "thermal blade" nose up in the air. It looked like it was hitting my base (I had run out the way and turned back to look)

But my Prawn suit was undamaged and the base seemed fine. As far as I know the Ice Worm can't get to you in your base but then again, this is with me up off the ground.

Went and did some more testing for you. Hope this is useful.

Note: The extending bridge area you couldn't build a two story multipurpose room, I have a lil station set up where I can drive up to the basin in my seatruck and depart through a hatch up vertical connectors to a storage compartment and get right onto the Bridge area. It's great for staging resource hauling to and from land bases to/from sea bases. I can get a pic of this as well if you'd like for an idea on how to do it.

Sweet! Thanks, DragonbornZyra! I appreciate that you took the time to test this. I'll look forward to my next playthough when I start building bases in the Glacial Basin. :D

I'm in a lily pad base and I think one of the nearby squidsharks is actually attacking and damaging my base. It only causes one leak but that of course floods the whole thing. The integrity is well above 0 as well. Sometimes minutes pass without anything happening, and just now I had two leaks back to back within a minute.

Creatures can damage bases, but they don't attack them on purpose.
Quineloe Nov 29, 2021 @ 11:01pm
So basically I need to run that squidshark over?
