New PDA Voice is ruining the games immersion. Flying space ships and still outsourcing every minor thing to India? I don't think the big Alterra is the only company that can afford a decent TTS
Just came back again to try the stranger pings update.

Anyone else find the new PDA voice extremely annoying to the point you're about ready to delete the game?

"Parsing 100 meters" This is apparently a text to speech voice, so they purposely gave it a stereotypical speech impediment to represent an Indian person who can't speak English properly. If you're going to try and pretend to be a white knight political company and include a voice that is a very unusual choice - why would you then be like "Yo India we're going to include you! but we know yall can't speak right so we won't forget to add that into the game"

/facepalm

Every time I hear the voice I'm waiting for it to ask me if I want to bundle my internet cable and phone package. Or to tell me the FBI is going to arrest me for suspicious activities
(These are phone calls many Canadians get daily as spam and it's always in an Indian voice with poor pronunciation like they just added in game)

By all means, add voices people can relate to... I'd love for everyone to have the same experience as I did with the first game no matter where you are from.

But don't remove a good thing - give us the option to have the original voice for the love of all things below 100 meters.

And to all the cry babies saying "Deal with it I don't want them to take time away from releasing the game faster to solve your issues" 1.. you aren't more important 2.. They had the original PDA in at the start, they literally are taking extra time to change it.

Yeah, I built my base at like 105 meters down. So every time I want to enter my base, I constantly hear "Parsing 100 meters". It bugs me every time. Why is there an R there?? Why does everyone in this game have to have some wacky accent now?

Fabricate a Rebreather. You will no longer hear the “Passing 100 meters” message.

It's not just that one line.
I'd rather no PDA voice, or the one from the original game over this one.. its awful.

You will get used to her and come to like her. I loved the old voice as well, but this "indian" accent has grown on me. It took a little while, but now she is like she was always there. The first few messeges she gave me was just terrible. horrible...how could they remoove the old one. 'I guess that's how most humans see change in the beginning. it's a stupid way humans react to something new. But as I said. She is like she always was there for me now :)

I agree on the point about "parsing", but aside from that I think the new voice is fine (though I hadn't really thought about it much at all).

I enjoyed the three existing discussions on this topic more - better hard data.

Yeah, that's answered in one of the existing threads - maybe we should let this new one die.

I agree with the OP. The new voice sucks.
I explained why in one of the more established threads on the topic.
We probably should consolidate these, and use the old ones instead of making new threads on the same topic. The board doesn't move fast enough to justify it.

indeed, its no warm voice and i cannot say that i like it too.

but for me its actually very spooky to test the new things in experimental without NPC voices, so i am enjoing at least that there is "someone" speaking to me ^^

must be close to the feeling of beeing waterboarded...

I think the PDA’s voice is still temporary (which is a bit sad to me, I really like it. It’s different.). But I might be wrong.

I concur. I quite like the PDA voice.

Comments like "Yo 100 pages back there is a thread you could necro" make me /facepalm almost as much as the decision for this new voice.

If you read the context of my post you'd know. I came back to the game after an update, the new voice is absolutely terrible, and so I created a post to share that opinion maybe the devs will see maybe they wont, maybe it'll get big because others agree maybe it wont.

But If an issue this bad isn't front page, I'm not going digging for it.

That said I'm not against mods merging them all together - the bigger the thread maybe the more seriously it'll be taken. There is also something to be said for threads like these constantly popping up too though, maybe the devs will get tired of seeing it and add the original voice as an option.

one can hope.

I don'm mind the new voice. It took me a bit to get used to it but I think it makes sense story-wise. Robin didn't arrive on the planet with Alterra tech, so the pda has a different voice to reflect the smaller company (cheaper) she works for. Look at the junker ship on the loading page, the companies priorities obviously aren't on paying for high quality equipment like Alterra. So the game developers decided to play into the stereotype of cheap companies hiring out for low-cost workforces. In reality that low-cost workforce for occupations similar to a help-line are in India. It might be a tad racest, though. Despite that, I personally like that attention to detail and attempt at further immersion.

Mine is not a question, and it has nothing to do with issues with authority. But you seem to be more interested in trying to force that narrative than the actual topic at hand, I'd suggest finding a more useful hobby but I figure you're quite content with trolling posts which you generally agree with you just have to have it done your way. The... Mommy I want THIS toy for Christmas demographic :P
