Why use truck teleport?
Unless there is a limitless source of ion cubes (don't make it easily accessible though), i don't see why i should use the sea truck's teleportation module when i can use the ion cubes on far more renewable items, like batteries and power cells. Though please tell me if there is, just not where :P

there is a mod in the original subnautica that more likely than not will move to below zero. its a machine that you construct in the base that uses the bases power to fuse and create ion cubes. and it does it right in front of your very eyes.
also another mod that will most likely port as well is the base teleporters. that use the bases power bank to teleport you to its corresponding modules in ur other bases. to make that mod even better it can even be used to get u around internally within ur bases. anyway i would look forward to these mods arriving around the end of development.

oh that DOES sound interesting. cause the finite amount of ion cubes really makes me not want to use it :/

Devs have said there will be more ion cubes and possibly a renewable source in future updates.
Experimental already has additional cubes.

Right now you needs them for:
Headlamp (1)
Quantum lockers (at least 4)
Portal (1)
purple tablet (1)
teleportation module (1 each time)
recyclotron (1)
ion batteries (1)
ion power cells (2)
Al-An's body (1)
If you did all of that you would quickly exhaust all the cubes in the world.

I kindof agree.. I thought this might be a nice emergency save your self from death button, but then I realized that the thing eats an ion cube each time you use it.. No thanks...

Yeah, I think it's a trap to cause unthinking players to not be able to complete the story because they have used up all the ion cubes.

doubtful. this seems more likely to be a result of early access.

You can just build new tether device every time to teleport, making them one time use. Craft a bunch of them and keep around you. Crafting a new tether doesn't require an ion cube, only recharging does.

Just throw it in the recyclotron before using the last charge then re-fabricate it for free.

OMG thats genius

They changed the Teleporter so that the cube now gives it (I think) 4 charges instead of just eating a full cube each time, if you hold the thing in your hand with charge fins equipped you can recharge the cube relatively quickly.

For anyone finding this now: Recycling it doesn't help now. The cube comes out drained still and if you reuse it stays the same percent drained.

can ion batteries be recycled? Use half spent cube to make a battery, recharge it and recycle it.

Just tried this and the recycle trick still works as of 45391.

Basically, eject the partially depleted ion cube from the tether tool, turn it into an ion battery at the fabricator, then turn it back into an ion cube at the recyclotron. Ion cube will be back at 100%.
